You don't mention anything about cable or Sat, so I'll assume that's in another room/system(?) Or is there more about this setup you haven't mentioned? Try the following connections. I probably wouldn't run any video through a lower end HTIB system just to pass it along to an HDTV. The way I see it this way you can toggle between two separate HDMI inputs on the HDTV and avoid what you are currently experiencing....

Panasonic Blue Ray Player HELP -

It has to do with resolution. If the original 4:3 image was 640x480 pixels then the the upscaler converts that to 1440x1080 pixels. Upscaling technology helps smooth over the rough edges of older 480 content but its is basically just guessing at what's there so it can't work miracles. If you turn it off you will see how bad a DVD image can look on a big screen. The image will get noticeable jaggies. To "fill" your 16:9...

If it has local dimming it will be better then a CCFL LCD and an edge lite LED LCD. But still not as good as a plasma or PJ, also plasma and (for the most part) PJ will have better shadow detail. Also not all local dimming LCD's are equal, some will be better then others, none are "great", it is still a new tec.

If the records are too scratchy, nothing is going to help. While you may remove some of the pops and scratchy noise, you are also removing some of the sound you want to hear as well. Some of the new music isn't so bad.

Panasonic Blue Ray Player HELP -

First, Curb Your Enthusiasm is in 4:3, not 16:9, so if you change the settings on your DVD player or TV to get the program content to fill your widescreen, then the content is being stretched to fill your TV. A lot of people like this just to get rid of bars, but personally I don't as I like to watch content in it's original format and the bars do not bother me. Second, on a lot of DVDs, the opening info/studio logo, warning, etc....

I hooked up computer to the BOSE wave machine to play MP3's and I don't notice any difference between the computer speakers and the BOSE speakers. Also, I have to crank up the BOSE volume 45 or higher because the volume is really low.

This is happening because not all the pins in your cable are connected. All but pin #9 must be connected for your PC to get monitor's name, resolutions, etc. (plug-and-play compatibility) In your case the DDC data pin(s) are probably not connected.

If you could, please summarize how everything is currently hooked up, and with what particular cables. What make/model cable box also? My gut feeling is it has something to do with the assigning of inputs on the receiver, or possibly the output setting on the WOW box. Again, it would help to know the make/model box you have.

For movies there's 1.37:1 (more or less the 3:4 of SD TV), the 1.85:1 (more or less the 16:9 of your widescreen TV) and 2.35:1 (widescreen movie, even wider, so gives black bands below and above when shown on 16:9 screen of widescreen TV). Kees

The Dec. issue of Consumer Reports has ratings on LCD's and Plasmas that you should pick up a copy and go from there.

just go buy a non-name mini phono to mini phono cable for 5 bucks or a mini phono to RCA (red and white plugs for left and right channels) convertor at an electronics store. No need to pay Bose a bunch of money for such a basic accessory.

I can't speak for the BDP-83, but I have their old DV-970HD player which has worked flawlessly for 3 years. But, last week, my remote stopped working for some reason. I emailed them yesterday with my problem. Without any questions, they are sending me a new remote. Now that's what I call customer service! What I do love about my OPPO is that it plays a zillion formats, including ...

I've yet to find one that can do anything past read a USB drive. Even that is sketchy (difficult to parse small jpeg directories). I'm not aware of anything that could connect to a my passport, although admittedly I've only tried my LG and the Phillips I returned previously with ext. HDDs. Poke around on Amazon for some of the older Phillips models (8"-10" screen sizes). I recall ...
