black bars at top and bottom
Published (2009-11-28 18:00:00)
Most blockbuster feature films however are 2.35:1 which is a good bit wider than 16:9. Some channels stretch images 4:3 images as well to make people look fat just so it will fill up people's 16:9 screens. Some crop the top and bottom of 4:3 images to fill the screens. Its all pretty depressing if you ask me and one of the reasons I only watch movies on DVD or Blu-ray. The cable channels know no shame when it comes to mutilating content.

Shouldn't most of the LCDs in that price range accept (unprotected) 1080p content over analog RGB from an Xbox? At least I think this is the case if what I understand is correct concerning what an xbox is sending out over component vs Blu Ray over HDMI. Admittedly, I'm not much of a gamer though.

Try DVD's that originate on HD video, like Planet Earth, and you won't see black bars. Content that originates on HD video will fill your 16:9 screen. You need to understand that our 16:9 screens were created for HD video. Film is shot in a variety of aspect ratios and 90% do not perfectly align to your screen. Therefore, if our HD TV's were specifically designed for film aspect ratios, which of the dozen aspect ratios would...

For HD you have to sign up for the HD package from your cable/sat provider and a Bluray play for the best HD quality, just run the HDMI stright to the tv and audio outs too the reciever. You can get a nice brand name BD player from $126-$150 (holiday sales) + they can stream movies from Amazon or Netflix depending on the brand you get, + otherthings over the net.

TV power consumption

isn't chump change. Medi-Cal could have definitely been more efficient in years past, and I essentially blame it on spending on more superfluous programs during the good days, rather than saving for the rainy days. I have personally spoken with a healthcare pro who had a senator's ear in getting some bs resolved, but the DHS didn't give a crap, because they had the governor's ear. The are extremely powerful. AFAIK, there...

I'd really like to hard-wire my Lan connection to it but I don't have a port where my TV is and it would be impossible to wire otherwise. I was wondering how the Netflix streaming worked when you suffered some packet losses on your wireless connection. From what I've read Netflix only downgrades your video signal when the connection slows but doesn't increase it when the signal picks up again. The idea of streaming movies...

'wireless bridge' G band ones are fairly cheap, N band ones run about $80-$100. Just makesure you get one that is compatable with the wireless router you have now. Google your router model number and wireless bridge or try the routers manufacturers website.

This is another wonderful example of how the state of CA is truly messed up. Instead of fixing their budget, schools, poor public spending choices and quality of life, they sidestep these issues and focus on what they consider a policy to lead the climate change issue.

I may be able to help. I have successfully handled a class action lawsuit against Panasonic based on premature bulb failure in a line of LCD tvs. I am currently investigating potential class claims against Mitsubishi. If you wish to discuss this, please contact me directly. Harry Shulman Note: this is a solicitation for professional services (a required disclosure in California).

internally, then make sure your Blu-ray player is set to pass through the decoding to the receiver. Assuming your receiver can do this and that your blu-ray player can bitstream these formats over HDMI you should see the correct surround name on the receiver screen. 1st gen PS3's and older blu-ray players with HDMI 1.1 (only HDMI 1.3 can bitstream the new uncompressed formats) could...
