Ball Seat Nut specification
Published (2009-12-15 00:53:00)
I have an order to make ball seat nuts for a large truck. Do have a sample but think it is not correct regarding the radius of the ball seat part of the nut. Cannot find any specification anywhere. Seems the radius of the ball seat should be exactly the diameter of the bolt on which the nut will go. Eg 22mm nut should have 22mm radius seat. But I would like to have some confirmation or reference to a specification in ANSI or ISO or anywhere...

Zoefie I have not seen such plans A "typical" engraving spindle mounted to the motion guide ways by means of a multi- bar linkage should do the trick. A polyurethane drive belt from drive motor to spindle meeting the flexibility requirement. The graver tip then must be regulated to extend beyond the rubbing guide nose the desired amount. Hmm pencil and paper...... Inspiration? http://www.visionengravers.com/produ...sories.html#si ....

Castable Vibration Dampening
Published (2009-12-18 14:03:00)
I'm designing a rather large gantry mill and I want to fill the rectangular steel tube with something... Epoxy granite is preferred but I need 3-4 cubic feet, so it may be too expensive, are there other options that are cheaper? Thought about maybe wax with lead shot or sand in it... Any thoughts? -Kyle

The navy used to fill things with lead shot to kill vibration. during my years as a machine designer (coming up on 40) i have filled frames with dry sand and cement. both work well although the sand is much better if you ever have to remove it for some reason or another. lead shot would be better of course but also much more expensive. and then the enviromental police will get on you.

Chinese Spindles
Published (2009-12-18 20:35:00)
For anyone out there considering either building a router or modifying a router with one of the Chinese spindles, I bought a motor with VFD for $523.00 including shipping from China. They advertised 3 to 5 day delivery, but mine actually took 10 days (but still not bad). Here is my recent experience: 1) The motor works great 2) It is much quieter than a router (I was using a 3 1/4 HP Porter Cable) 3) It is still not 'quiet'. The...

As stated you'll have to look up the spec. based on the thread size of your fitting. There us usually a range for different thread engagements, but most common threads have a standard tap drill size. You don't want to have a hole with an odd size that is the IDEAL size, but no way to drill it without special tools. Machinists hate that sort of thing so use some common sense and keep in mind what tools you have access to and the...

Andy What type of fitting are you screwing into this thread? The inside diameter of that fitting will be the smallest diameter in the connection. It would be of little value to make the hole any bigger than the inside of that fitting. If you want it as big as possible, you can make it any size up to the "tap drill" size for your pipe fitting. You should be able to easily find tap drill sizes online, or in the machinerys handbook....

Hi The basic mechanism would work but with questionable accuracy and speed limitations. 1. To keep positional accuracy under control a simple rack has a problem in that the progression is not perfectly uniform with rotation of the pinion. There are various ways of improving this such as helical tooth forms. This problem is distinct from backlash. 2. A timing belt is designed to...
