Star/Delta start applies to 3 phase motors, you mentioned this is a 1 phase? IIRC the code states that all heavy load starting motors, the protection can be increased but should not exceed 225% of the FLA. Al.

Yes Krazatchu I would love to avoid the DIY . That is why I am here to pick the brians of the more knowledgeable . So in converting the AC to DC will I lose amperage or will I gain like on the voltage side . Also what does SMPS mean . I would like to keep the 20 - 30 amps that I will be inputing as well but keep the converter as small as possible .

Allrighty... According to the PM you sent me, you want to convert 120VAC to 120VDC... Rectified 120VAC will not give you 120VDC, it will give you 120VAC * 1.414 = 170VDC... Rectified AC without the use of an isolation transformer is incredibly dangerous... It has the potential to kill... I would suggest a transformer to step down the 120 AC to roughly 85 volts AC ... And then rectify and smooth... The resulting no load dc voltage would be...

hey bill, call me i am in team with a very good machinist who is making a retrofit of a lagun mill (1,5 tons) using home made roller screw but unfortunately he do not speak english also your machine despite his price is suffering of insufficient rigidity so making a team might be interisting we have tig ac/dc plasma mill lathe oscillo servo and due to the ecomomic slowdown time me i work only sat/sunday

The fluid coupler is out due to space issues. Also, I can probably find another motor for what that coupler will cost me. I cannot remember how to determine if a motor is able to start under load. Idea? I think my first mistake was settling for an open drip motor instead of TEFC but this motor in a 1ph is HARD to find. a dime a dozen in the 3ph variety. I am looking at VFDs now. If I have to change this motor, I am strongly considering just...

Any one here build a motor speed controller that will run off 120V ac house power to run 90V dc motors using triacs? If yes, will you share your experiance and schematic. Today I tried one of the Chinese router speed controllers for AC/DC motors with a fullware bridge rectifier and it runs a DC motor very nicely. Thanks

First, I want to thank everyone who has responded to my post. All the information was very appreciated. Second, I would like to answer Lee's question in post #24. This project actually began in our local library when I found a book entitled "CNC Robotics Build Your Own Workshop Bot", it can be found at www.books.mcgraw-hill.com . It goes into detail on how to build a cnc router, everything from printing the circuit...

Here is the short story. bowl tumbler lost a lower bearing on the shaft that goes through the center of the bowl and holds the jiggle weights. I forgot to fuse my motor correctly so when the bearing failed, it took the motor with it. I replaced the bearings and got a used 1.2HP open drip motor (previous was a 1.0HP TEFC). I upsized the motor slightly because it seemed to need a tad more. ...

A few years ago I designed and built a toaster oven controller for SMD reflow for a 100 prototype order. The oven worked so beautifully I kept it and all my prototypes from then on have been soldered on that oven. It features local and RS232 remote control and programming, profile setup and storage, manual control, (adjustable) PID temperature control with a modified Bresenham algorithm ...

I'm busy retrofitting a Hurco KMB-1 to mach 3, and to my dismay, the darn thing has 45volt servos. Where do I go now? I was going to use the Larken Viper 200 drives, but they are only rated for 20 amps. At 45 volts, I will be drawing twice the current of a 90 volt servo. Obviously this is a hobby mill, and if I have to replace the servos, I will scrap the whole idea of this retrofit. Any ...

The Shop Bot has been in the shop for months now,and work is slow. I planned to get the G540 Gecko but money is tight. Now I just wont to get it up and running. The motor's are model 266-02A vexta 1.8/step. I'm new to the cnc world. Been checking E-Bay and there is a 4 Axes board for $129.00 Resolution: Full step, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, selectable via pin for each axis. max 2.5AMP@36VDC max 90 ...

Hi All, I'm pretty new to cnc machines and have been lurking around the site for a little while and have to say that this place is awesome!!! You guys are amazing with the machines you build and mod, Very cool stuff. I'm a luthier originally from NY now in NC and I build Bass guitars. I have a shopbot cnc router and an IM service cnc sherline lathe, which both work great. It took me a ...

I have a general question about amplifiers . Is it possible to turn 12 volts DC into a greater voltage ( like 48 or 96 or 108 volts)and where would I find such an amplifier or do I need to have one created for me special pupose ? Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Hello, This is my first post on CNCZONE so first of all thanks for all the ideas/photos that the members of CNCZONE are sharing I have started a CNC project together with a friend, based on a CAMTECH RM25 machine. The machine had NO electronics at all. Only the stepper drivers. Since the machine arrived the following problems came out: 1) We are located in Greece = shipping ...
