Applying power to an induction motor while it is still turning in the opposite direction is called a plug stop. Often these snubbers where fitted to this kind of application, now it is common to see the R/C network added to 3 phase reactors in VFD applications. Al.

I just don't want them to be too weak. I'd rather pickup a better drive and stepper if the 540 will only do a mediocure job because of being under powered. And by under powered I mean the steppers and drive combo not being sufficient to cut aluminum. However if the 540 will do it im happy because that setup is a steal and i like how everything is integrated into 1 unit. Sorry for my newbish questions but I have a few more: What are...

You can always have extra Amp capacity and it won't hurt anything. The BOB will just draw what it needs--But you wouldn't want to have a PSU rated for LESS Amps than the BOB needed. BTW: There is no better driver for X2 than the G540. This is what I recommend: $289 G540 http://geckodrive.com/product.aspx?c=3&i=14469 $147 Three $49 KL23H2100-35-4B 381 oz motors for X, Y & Z $060 One KL-350-48 48V/7.3A power supply....

Try and complete the help page which George has pointed you at. This will help confirm that it is a stepper and the drive notation required. You won't need the Gecko current capability as this is a very small motor. Look towards using an IC direct drive. George that Java sheet is brill - thanks. Regards Pat

It may be electical/electromagnetic noise. You might try putting an EMI filter in the power to the router just as close to the router as possible. Here is a link to one from Digikey http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/120...maw120522.html They have others of course. I don't know how much current your router draws, but the filter current would have to be rated higher than the router startup current. You might also try rerouting the power cord...

The machine uses just one power AC line for both motors. Thats why I was thinking of just cutting that wire. It's already external to the machine. the just use a maintained start switch to restore power to the machine when it's pushed. The switch itself would mount to where the black plate is on the bottom left of the machine...

Thank you all for answering. This is salvaged transformer with multiple outputs so I just took 18V instead 24V...It has 12,18,24 and 32V outputs. Now I got 20,4V dc after the rectifier. "DC voltage of this "simple" unregulated voltage is 1.4 times the ac voltage. " I learned something new today My driver board can only take 24V so this will be OK. I tried to connect it to 25V and one of the capacitors on the...

Thanks for the link Mike, I had a quick look and it looks simple enough, I wonder if you could use it without the film, just by "squeezing" some in the holes required, then cooking. I will investigate further when the screaming settles down a bit later on tonight (3 young kids!!!) Cheers. Russell.

I would think using software limits would be the best option unless you want to take the scope apart and stick a limit/homing switch in there somehow. Can you manually put the mirror in the same position at the start then switch the stepper drive on and tell it that it is homed straight away ? And possibly when you power it down leave it in the homed position so at restart you can do the ...

I don't think it is bad power transitors. If it were bad power transistors, it would always move at maximum speed in the same direction when the EStop is released, whether the ribbon cable is plugged in or not. I am not familiar with the Supermax stuff so I don't know exactly what is routed over the ribbon cables. My suspicion is that you have an encoder failure, either wiring or maybe the ...

Zeed, The 24 V AC is measured at rms voltage which is .707 of the peak voltage and the DC voltage is the peak voltage of the system. In order to get "rid" of the excess voltage, you need to reduce the "ac" voltage. DC voltage of this "simple" unregulated voltage is 1.4 times the ac voltage. Hope this helps.

Not quite sure of the questions, but for VFD's often the manufacturer will recommend three phase chokes or reactors, in some cases I have fitted them on the input and output. Most hobbiests do not bother it seems. Magnetic contactors? These are uses to disconnect three phase power to the VFD input, never between VFD and motor. They are usually picked up when the E-stop is released to put ...
