PROBLEM (AGAIN)

Recuperating. The rotac cannot turn and move the gear plates unless the shot pin retracts. The rotac comes out after the spindle motpr is removed. Pretty sure of that unfortunately. Have 4 children and 2 grandchildren. Expecting a gaggle of grandchildren eventually. George

You would be much better off buying a VFD. It's cheaper than a phase converter, and will also give you variable speed.

So if you were to pull the quill and remove about 1/8" from top and bottom of the slot in the head casting you could have the full 5"?

George, Not trying to interupt your time with all the family. It is a great time having them at home, the little ones are a lot of fun and won,t be young as long as we would like. I never wanted or thought I would want grandchildren,I like things quite now and life simple. Then a sweet little girl came along and I found out how wrong I was. Shes 3 1/2 now and seems like we were just headed to the hospital last week when she was born. Time is...

New Quill Drive Design
Published (2009-11-23 01:41:00)
I recently designed a quill drive, using a mounting concept I've never seen used before. I've seen the ones that mount to the tramming bolts. I did want that, as it makes tramming too difficult. I've seen the Elrod, but since I plan on selling these, I couldn't use their concept,... Hello Ray, Will you release the prototype soon? Do you plan to sell plans or kits? Thanks.

Looks good exept on the X-Axes you only want Angular contact Bearings on one side, use a regular radial bearing on the other.
This is because if the heat expansion between table and screw is not exactly the same it could lead to binding or even warping of the screw.
So one side should be free to grow.
Allow for some adjustability for the axial preload on the Bearing.
Set screw for the ...

I hope you have better things to do on a Thanksgiving. But I wish you a great one.
On the right side of the transmission below the motor you will see the ROTAC. This is a air driven device with orifices in the air lines, that moves two plates (top and bottom) that hold the gear assemblies. The top plate has teeth along its perimeter to mate with the ROTAC. The rotac at its top has 2 magnetic ...

What kind of drives and control?
Probably Fanuc drives. Two types of orient devices used. One was a encoder, and the other magnetic. Spindle probably has a piggy back orient board with adjustments on it. Make sure orient LED lights up. (check your manuals for how to adjust) Then the carousel should come forward. If it stops there, either the control does not see the verification switch that it ...

Well, I made some more progress, but I am still not done. Ran out of time on my days off. Here are some pics:
Started working on the tapered half of the cartridge that will fit the #30 QC spindle. Turned major and minor diameters, did the rest of the machine work the next day.
And I somehow botched it up. I could not test fit the taper until I finished ...

That is the BMDC which actually runs the machine and has its own processor and memory. When you LOAD a program it goes to this board. The red lights meanthat the software has not loaded
Press the rest button, and see if the floppy turns on for a few seconds.
Trying to figure out if the mother board is dead. If the floppy lights up then the MB is working.
Is the fan turning on the logic power ...

Hello all, first post. I am trying to educate myself on Bridgeport mills as I would like to get one some time in the not too distant future. I have a couple questions. From what I have read I want a J head model. Questions
1. I see two different speed indicators, one with an open round dial (older version I think) and one with a cover over the dial (newer version?). Is there any ...

There was a piece of software called EZ-SPS that emulated a EZTRAK on a PC. It was a fully functional piece of software which would post a program as either a TXT file (G and M code) or as a PGM file (conversational EZTRAK).
Maybe Hardinge is still selling it.

Jog the table and make sure it is counting correctly first.
See if it can get to where you want to go displaying the correct position.
