Help! Front pinion seal is leaking.

I believe the crush sleeve in the pinion should be changed when the yoke is removed to reset proper pinion depth.

Gear Ratio Questions

Are you sure the 700R4 is working correctly? 4.10's are low geared for 32's. 4.56's are good for 35's.

If your building a crawler most of that sheet metal will get cut away anyways so no big deal. Fix what ya need to and cut the rest out. Good thing about the frame being rust free. Everything else is easy to replace. You got a smog exempt year K5, thats always a good thing even if it's not an issue for you, I didn't look where you are at. You got a good deal. I paid $2700 for my 73' and it's 99% rust free but I still trimmed...

The auto's work fine, on teh street, as long as oyu aren't stuck. They don't engage unless they are rolling forward. So most people wait til they are stuck, pop it in 4wd, and step on the gas. If/When the auto's engage, there is normally too much torque being sent to them, and they explode. With manuals, you lock them before you might need 4wd, but leave the xfer case in 2wd, then stop and shift into 4wd when needed. They...

Seafoam: Yay or Nay?

I run it frequently through my ATVs to absorb the condensation in the gas tank and keep things cleaner. I've rebuilt the carbs on our rigs a bunch and it visibly makes a big difference. I ran a whole can through the valves of my DD a few months back. It has 180k on it, and the highway mileage went from 12.3 to 17.2 mpg on the next tank. I didn't do any other abnormal maintenance on the truck around that time so I'd suppose the...

Clamps will work just fine. Once you crimp the pipes though, they will be harder to seperate later. Not as hard as weld would be. Shouldn't have any issues with leaks, as long as the pipes fit each other correctly.

Ok, I've had problems with my '85 doors doing the same thing and I've found the best way to unlock them is to give the handle a good hit with the lower pad or palm of your hand and then try unlocking it.
Lots of times when I put the key in, it wouldn't turn all the way to unlock. So I give the handle a good hit which is enough to "push" the door back in and "reset" the latch inside to enough...

I don't think it was really any modification to the firewall, but there were some minor changes to the cowl area. Mostly just involving the wiper stanchions, since the pre-81's had short stanchions to clear the hood.
I believe Rene was talking about this at one point, and we did a bit of research. It's been a while though, so it may have been someone else.

The lifters can be replaced with the heads still on the motor, only need to remove the intake manifold.
Porting a set of stock 305 heads would be polishing a turd. Could you gain some improvement, yes. Is it worth the effort, not really. There is a good chance they are probably cracked too. Late 70's through late '80's small block heads aren't the best castings from the factory. You would ...

I like the idea! Make sure you test it out close to home but I would like to link my rig one day but I am going to watch your trial and error to see what works (and possibly doesn't) with yours first.

The ole sugar in the gas tank gag/UPDATE: got one going
I think someone got my trucks. The 88 Burb stalled out a mile from the house and was towed back. Cranks but wont fire. The 90 died this morning right after I got to work. Same MO, cranks but wont start. I had driven the 90 yesterday, but it still had 15-20 gallons of gas, the 88...

Found the holy grail of pitman arms
Today I pulled not one, but two E-series van pitman arms. I've seen people discuss the part numbers and dimensions of it here and on Pirate, but I've never seen anything conclusive. Hope this clears that up and maybe becomes easy to find on Google.
The vans are easy to spot:
