I think that your method would probably be the ideal either way, as with mine you wind up with a bunch of tris unless you delete every other edge/ Dig your portfolio, BTW.

Z Brush - selection of Z spheres...

If you go 'save as' under the tool palette it saves as a .ztl. you might have to recreate your zsphere chain if it saved as a brush file (.zbr). when you save as a .zbr file, it saves a 2.5D file i believe, so you cant really work with it. .ztl saves out a workable 3d file, same as any other 3d package.

Have you tried edge modeling? i've always prefered that approach over box modeling...it gives me a lot more control. Take a look at Steve Jubinville's XSI tutorial for some nice edgeloops: http://www.sjdigitalsculptor.com/3.tutorials.html Of course the joan of arc tutorial is also a great starting point: http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorial...rc/joanmenu.php

You don't even need to "rip" YouTube really. Just save the .flv file. For Firefox: DownloadHelper Add-On This one can automatically convert the file too, if you prefer, to another more friendly format.

Thanks Dare-o! i just moved the verts. as for the steps, i've seen 2 video tutorials that start with th eyes like that so i'm trying to memorize them. starting with the lips will be a big challenge for me. It got messy serveral times..! i did best by saving very often! here it is. No blueprints by the way. i feel better like that.

Z Brush - selection of Z spheres...
Published (2009-12-05 15:19:00)
Hi, I saved the file as .zbr . The draw mode is the only option selectable and when I mouse over the chain none of the spheres are selectable. Is there a way to work with this? how do I save it as a .ztl? Thanks

1) Let them as they are 2) If there is any problem with letting them as they are when rendering or animating then change them Law of minimal effort.

If you could post a wireframe of your torso it would help. I'd like to see what your edge flow is like. I'd also start looking at what other people have done with their character models, mostly wireframes, and see how their edge flows create the anatomy you want on your model.

Gosh, that's a difficult question, it highly depends on what needs to be modeled and for what end purpose or goal. Generally nurbs aren't much used in CG and are more popular in design for manufacturing, in particular industrial design and automobile bodywork. Sub-d now holds significant ground, characters are nearly ubiquitously sub-d because it animates quite well and predictably....

Shot in the dark as I'm thoroughly in your boots as far as 3d art. Practice practice practice. Keep checking out tutorials but also mess around with the app you want to use. Try re-creating tutorials you've done with other source materials. If you're into cars or guns you can find threads here for turnarounds. For characters and enviros you could base it off of photos. Usually what i do is watch a movie on my computer, then when i see a cool scene i press print screen and save the picture. It's really useful when finding ideas and what not. For your ref you could watch the harry potter movie chess scene and take pictures. or google.
