EIAS into Blender

Blender is getting very big these days, Dynamics , Softbodies and RIgid Bodies, Hair, Sculpting tools, Vray,Lux for Blender i mean you have no excuse to not learn it. The only thing is the workflow which is being fixed in the next release other than that i think is a good idea to include it in the pipeline. i was watching a sculpting tutorial on Blender and i was very impressed with it and what it got to offer. Tremendous effort. Edgard To...

SolidWorks to EI
Published (2009-11-09 01:18:00)
Well, the files that I thought came in OK, now I find there are missing faces. And the geometry is bad so that I can't generate new faces to replace them (which is probably why they couldn't be exported). So tomorrow I have to bug the "man in the middle" again and hope he passes me along to the CAD operator -- or cans the project. There has to be a better way.

CGTalk - Realflow / EIAS advice...

Hi Ross and Edgard, Thanks for your input. I agree that the contact point is a bit unrefined. A bit too particle-y. A cloudy mist effect along that edge sweeping up might help to integrate it better with the ground more. Maybe a KMyst or FTurb shader on a form sliding just at the front edge of the wave. Mr Blobby is something that I have used in the past but I find it a bit limiting since it is slow and tends to balloon up the geometry too...

rendering transparent object

I sent an email about the broken link. I also figured out my little problem. I had selected "use raytrace" in the transparency main options. After I deselected it I had transparent glass again while raytrace rendering! Thanks all.

There is no way for raytraced transparency to produce a proper alpha channel. The ray must ultimately return some color. If you have After Effects- you may be able to create a virtual green screen by rendering with the proper background color. This color will be visible through the glass, and you should be able to composite using chroma key. Dave

EIAS into Blender
Published (2009-11-08 20:56:00)
Hi! So can anyone write up a step by step on getting animations into Blender From EIAS? Particularly what check boxes need to be checked on the way out of EIAS? Does anyone know if it matters whether we use BVH flat or hierarchical? I've not had the time to figure this workflow out yet, so I'm hoping someone else has... Thanks!

Realflow / EIAS advice requested

Hej Bill, I don`t know why, for me that front part still looks as if a heavy cloudburst patters directly into the front of the wave...can`t explain it better. But I don`t know if it is so important and there`s no need to criticize that too much. I am not sure if I could come half as close to what you did here. And I am still inspired of your genius idea concerning that rotating cylinder representing the water wheel. Really cool ;-) Best Tom

Could you create a luma matte pass by, say, using a black background and that bottle using a white transparent material with luminance? Later in AE you could derive an alpha from that.

I agree with the others. The wave itself looks great. But the front edge just isn't quite right. I think a finer mist might help push it over the top. You're almost there. And for someone only seeing it once, they probably wouldn't notice anything. It's only when you get the chance to watch it over and over that things start jumping out that need to be worked on. Hi Eric, Try opening your rendered bottle in After Effects (if you have it). If you do, be sure to put a "solid" color layer beneath the bottle so you can see how the transparency is supposed to look. Joe T

Hey Edgard You have to be in "face" or "Poly" mode in order to use that untriangulate function in c4d....if i recall correctly, been a while since I used it. Once in that mode, select all faces then use it. It does a pretty good job. How complex is your model. I've gone into edge mode in c4d and deleted edges to make quads manually....the beauty of having a modeler in the animation app........

Hi Alonzo, I always leave geometries which I want to have different materials or colours assigned to in EI as single parts. If you bring it in as one geometry I doubt that you can control the parts you want to look different. Some time ago I had the idea to use the polygon tool for that purpose but it didn`t work the way I had imagined...search for the thread if you like. What I...
