There are tons of photos in that thread. You know what this forum really doesn't need? Another one of those threads.

The Avatar day footage had some very high quality facial animation as well, so I expect that at least parts of the movie are going to be as good as Davy Jones. I also don't believe the e-mocap hype, particularly after seeing that youtube footage with images of what those face cams have seen. I really can't accept that a single, tiny, wide angle camera can get enough tracking data to drive a face complete with wrinkles and stuff -...

Do you show wires to clients?
Published (2009-11-27 14:34:00)
It's good practice to break down any project into definite stages right from the start with key sign-off points and often stage payments. It ensures that the client isn't constantly making amendments throughout the cycle of the project without prior warning that it will cost more money and delay the project. As an example you might have storyboard/concept sign-off to ensure that the concept is what the client wants, then animatic,...

I'll have to watch it again but I thought there were a couple of spots in Beowulf that crossed over the valley. One was a moment with Malkovich talking to someone(his face was partly in shadow)-I thought--is that a cg model or him? Its a pretty good cg model! and the other was near the end when the Queen is talking to Beowulf as he puts on his armor. She was talking and I felt the shot authentic-I even turned to someone and said: doesnt...

I was planning on seeing this movie a few times in the theater. But thanks to some of the more eagle eyed people here I can stay home save money and just know deep down inside that Cameron is wrong about the pore located 3/4 of the way down Jakes right cheek. Ah what a warm and fuzzy feeling.

This show is actually a guilty pleasure of mine, I really love it. It takes me back to those saturday morning action/adventure cartoons I loved when I was young.
Not to mention it's brilliantly animated for a tv show, brilliantly animated period actually.

I'd be interested in this too.
From what I understand only the coloured lenses would work for still images as the 'grey' lenses you're referring to are polarized and require an image to be created with alternating 'channels' for each eye similar to interlacing. I might be wrong about that though.

Threads like this one usually get closed, but I understand your dilemma.
I'd honestly say Photoshop is the way to go if you trying to make the decision based on numbers alone. Painter is a great program, so I'm not saying that Photoshop is better, just that it has a larger install base.
If you're trying to teach modern texturing, however, I think you should try and include either Zbrush ...

In another life I used to help a friend of mine, who is a profession gaffer, on some studio shots.
He likes say," I dont like Christmas" when we sit down to discuss any part of a project that he is the lead. That in plain english meant that he hated surprises or the classic "you will love it when you see it" attitude that we sometimes have as artists.
From that experience, I learned ...

That was what people were asking 10 or 15 years ago. With the trend towards multi-core architecture, optimizing code to run on 8+ core systems is hard enough. Also splitting tasks off to a different kind of processor that addresses different memory is a tricky proposition with questionable benefits.
We should be asking "How long before GPUs start to go the way of the FPU, so nobody bothers ...

First things first...they crack open your demo reel and watch it. If its crap then thats it...in the garbage. If good then they gloss over your resume to get a better idea who you are and what your qualifications are. Then, depending on the structure of the company, the HR person may contact you to gather further information...availability, rate, etc. This step may also happen later after ...

I was quite impressed with the animation of the flick.

To the best of my knowledge not a single manufacturer of 3D software is publishing this kind of data.
At best you can check the reports of the publicaly traded ones, but i doubt that this will be very helpfull in the end.
Cheers
