Rick, possums are such a low life form I'm not sure how much i can relate their experience to ours. either full bore stress, or little to none at all. is that like, will that car turn me into roadkill, or not? and yeah i was paraphrasing the semper fi saying... Are you going to lake wales fl jan 14?

Since we're applying bleach to a steel saw blade, I think that the info relating to sterilization of non porous surfaces has a direct bearing. Why would it require 10 minutes to sterilize a steel countertop, but less time to sterilze a steel saw blade? BTW, the crud I'm talking about removing is on the saw, from the last branch cut on the last tree.

Here's the second article I like how it briefly looked at the effects of the cleaning agent on the pruning tools. It doesn't mention chainsaw sanitation, but it's something. Sterilized Pruning Tools: Nuisance or Necessity?

spiral growth explained, to some degree: http://www.fathom.com/course/21701736/session4.html An interesting and short intro to the concept. I just internet searched it and looked through a few found items. I'd wondered about this for a while. Anybody have any contradictory info, or does this sound close to accurate?

Stress is stimuli for evolutionary success! I'm fearful. however, that human culture's adaptation to industrial and economic stresses translates more into desensitizing empathetic response and leads to serial killings, molestations, torture in the name of national security, and looking-up to examples of evil (like Sarah Palin) for guidance and leadership.

sounds an awful lot like, "...that which does not kill you only makes you stronger." There was a study a number of years ago that monitored Opossum and it found that for them less stress = better health and longer life. I also seem to recall that there were fewer offspring among the less stressed which had a stress lessening effect as well. If I also recall correctly however within this particular study that opossum life in general...

Go to another source for info on disinfecting...health department. They have the same time recommendations for proper sanitizing of food/eating surfaces.

Eustress, like Shigo said about moderate stress being good and damaging levels cause strain. That which does not kill them makes them stronger?

Wow, this is brilliant. Even if those wasps can not control EAB at least they can help scientists have a better understanding of the locations and densities of EAB populations. I have seen alot of ash dye back in this area. Alot of boring insects but no EAB that I am aware of here yet. Cool article Brent Thanks

No takers? How about viral? Genetic? Enviromental (NOT WIND)? C'mon, I need some help here. It's drivin' me crazy. You've all seen rope that's been twisted to add strength, same thing with cabling. Does the same thing apply to the trunks of trees? Not necessarily the branch union areas but the trunk itself?

I attended a couple seminars on palms here in florida, where the presenters advocated sterilizing hand saws between trees, to prevent the spread of palm diseases. 25% solutions of either bleach/water, pinesol/water, or lysol/water were recommended with a 10 minute soak time. According to one presenter, in some high end properties with particularly expensive Phoenix palm species in the ...

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. perniciosum seems to be a heavy hitter on Albizia julibrissin. It appears that it can be diagnosed by discoloration of the xylem if the bark is peeled away. One of the texts states that it can show pinkish fruiting bodies. Here are some links http://pubs.ext.vt.edu/2811/2811-1020/2811-1020.pd f http://ipmimages.org/browse/subthumb.cfm?SUB=645&. ..+L.+...

If it's not the main problem, it's certainly not helping them any either. Any decline issues on any trees in the area, other than those oaks? Mulch shouldn't be against the trunks of the trees. Have you pulled it back on any of them and excavated to check the condition of the roots? They might be planted too deep, in addition to being mulched too close. Are there any other trees in ...

My guesses are : Wet feet if its P. strobus , Pine Wilt if its P. sylvestris , or Diplodia if its P. nigra . I'm only basing this on what I see in central Missouri. Some info and pics. would help to make a positive I.D.
