Help - 98 Regal Supercharged...

You will get some sparking when hooking a battery up. There is no way around that unless every module and fuseblock in the car is disconnected.

I agree, I got the impression though that it was more than the slight sparking you get when you reconnect the cables.

Don't forget your supporting mods.. trans, driveshaft, rear, etc. Your stock THM200 will not take well to more power. You have to weigh power/$ spent. The cost of building up an Olds will likely more than offset the cost of changing over to a Chevy motor. Its not a huge change, either. Go find a Monte Carlo and grab the hardware. The frame is the same, they are all G-body cars. Not that I'm advocating one or the other. Personally...

just bought this regal, everything is fine, just a little bit noisy from transmission, I don't know if it is normal for this model or not. when started from stop, when accelerate, I heard the whinning noise from transmission, but just from 1st gear and 2nd gear, after 3rd gear, it's quiet. the noise sounds like when you accelerate fast on the reverse. is it normal for this transmission or just the transmission is worn out soon or...

1985 Buick Regal help?

Nope. Even though the car is old and is cheap I would be seriously cautious about my safety and the quality of the repairs on any rebuilt car.

My daughter had a similar problem last year with a 99 LS, smell and all. Her problems all went away with a brand new battery.

Supercharged 350 in a 98 Regal?
If the battery has a bad cell, it can do what you are describing. Have the battery tested with a Midtronics tester.

Not really. The NA V6 in those years were meant as basic here to there transportation.
You would spend less money, get better results stepping up to a small block V8 and a transmission that will hold that power.

My 00 has one. I think there is a way to add it to yours.
However, unless you tweak the computer to allow skip-shifts it isn't really worth it. Makes very little difference on my stock car.

you would have to change tha frame mounting location to do a chevy..
455 olds would be a good move, but if you have to smog test..that may get you in a bind.
350 olds with a lil bigger than stock cam, aftermarket intake, a reworked Q=jet & headers should make a nice lil runner,,

My family has really been interested in the new regal, but we live in a
region where winters are pretty bad. We need a vehicle awd but don't want a
bigger car like the new lacrosse, i know the regal is the lacrosse (both on
the same platform) on a shorter wheelbase, which is good because the
lacrosse (I test drove it) would be a lot better smaller and would be
awesome to lose a few hundred lbs ...
