If performance is a real issue, you can take that motto to the extreme by going through the list at Black Viper . _______________________________________________________________ "posting for effect" ______ Fire net - V 21 - Fast 4 - f · 2 · s - eclipse internet - Adsl 24 - Titan ADSL - aaisp.net

Wow thats a big list. That would take ages to go through. But performance is fine like i said on my first post. Windows 7 on this pc seems to have better network performance than my other 2 xp machines. The only issue i had was a slight lagg spike thing occuring when playing games online. Which seems to be solved since turning off homegroup and media sharing.

If you don't need it turn it off always seems like a good motto to me. Examine your services and you may find others that you don't need. Few people can be happy unless they hate some other person, nation, or creed. Bertrand Russell

In reply to a post by Anonymous: hi there i have just got my new windows 7 machine up and running at the moment i am using the windrows 7 firewall is the sufficient or should i install comodo or zonealarm , many thanks See, windows firewall does its job fine. What it doesn't do as some software does - is prevent the user from maliciously causing harm to themselves by installing malware. I find many novice users seem to have issues...

In reply to a post by iand : So I had a spare day and a Win7 DVD. Thought I would just see if it would load on my AMD K6 CPU PC, with 380K memory. I normally run the latest Fedora on this for 'testing'... Well took about 2hrs to load Win7 Ultimate and get fully running. PC ran real slow with 100% for a further 4+hrs while some .NET stuff was compiled in the background. Can just about use it for surfing, just about. Windows...

a good anti virus will do the job here on non 0day malware, 0day malware will be hit and miss dependent on the detection methods. I am baffled as to how some people come across malware so frequently, in my last year I have had 1 email with a virus in it, I yesterday browsed a site which nod32 gave me a warning about it blocked some url's. Before that nod32 was redundant nothing. On my spare machine when I was trying to find some...

I've had the same problem in my 32bit laptop and my 64bit desktop. Mostly just streaming videos are laggy and painfully slow. I thought Windows7 was suppose to be better this time. Whose idea was this slow streaming videos? Windows 7 was definitely NOT my idea. Nobu

I assumed it was down to slow loading websites as when it happens the progress bar is very slow.
However it may well be something else as you suggest because Firefox doesn't seem to be affected

Looks like you have time to burn! 380k? Do you mean MB? And if so - then of course it's going to run slowly - what did you expect?

Win7's firewall is much the same as the one in vista. In default mode it allows all outbound connections, so IMO little benefit over the routers firewall. If however you're prepared to put the effort in it can be worth using. Need the set it to block all outbound connections and set rules for what you wish to have access to the net. The problem here is it gives no warnings, other than in ...

Hey all.
I am currently looking into different ways of managing software on all off our windows based machines.
We look for a software that will be able to roll out any common install file. We are currently looking into Norton Ghost Suite 2.5 but it will also be nice to know if there is anything else out there at the moment. Rolling out .MSI by windows group policy is not ...

yes, I have, quite frequently while playing video. I had originally blamed an underpowered graphics card, but after reading about this a few days, maybe not.

Er, that sounds more like a problem with the 'caching firewall'. Why does it even do that? It should either block it completely or let it through unhindered.

IE is quite susceptible to those types of hijacks (fake virus alerts). Try malwarebytes and if that fails, hijackthis.

As far as I know defragmenters rearrange space just on the one drive and can't make use of another one. When you think about it, that could be a pretty dangerous procedure - at all times the defragmenter needs to ensure that should the power fail, for example, the integrity of the disk is preserved.
