That is extremely good for a line with a 60dB attenuation. My line has 20dB less attenuation, but only manages about 4500kbps to 5000kbps. What happens is that your router will "negotiate" a sync speed to give an SNR which is close to the target of 7dB. The SNR varies throughout the day and night, which probably explains why it was only 5.2dB when you logged it. However, I don't think you will do much better than...

You are still on G.DMT. Plug in the original Sky router and see if that helps otherwise ring Sky and ask them to put you on ADSL2+.

haven't tried others, works fine apart from opera not liking it and not loading pages at random when IE works fine. strange signal is the same for me as on my mobbie with O2 = good --- 1st ISP - Demon - Dialup 2nd ISP - Pipex 512K, then 1Mb 3rd ISP - PlusNet 2Mb, kicked off after being placed on the bad boy pipe 4th ISP - Zen 2Mb. no probs at all. 5th ISP - Bulldog 4Mb then 8Mb, now 18Mb 6th ISP - O2. 18-20MB, i think,

As i said, i dont know much about adsl stats, but does it mean i have a better line compared to the op or worse? i know my attenuation is very high (and as you say its not just that) but is the noise on my line of "Noise Margin 5.4 db 10.5 db " is that good or bad? do i want either number up/down i know i cant change these numbers but just wondered - if i used another router instead of the sky one, could it make a better...

Your downstream noise margin is the problem, it's too low to support 2.8Mbps
Have you made any alterations to your internal wiring?
i don't think this is an "artificial" reduction caused by too many reboots.

ADSL2+ works well for some, but not others. When they did it on my 4500kbps line, it dropped down to 3500kbps. Give customer services a ring and ask them why it hasn't happened. If it is a disaster, as mine was, you can get it put back to g.dmt.

In reply to a post by tomos : i signed up for sky tv, phone and bbi and apparently, the TV is installed 1st then everything else.
why isn't the broadband installed asap? Because you have to wait for Openreach to get around to it.

I would laugh at it all didn't make me cry I have had exactly the same response from Sky, who I think are just plainly lying, but [insert disclaimer] I don't have the tech knowledge to prove it [/insert disclaimer]. Having been stated by one of Sky's Technical Solutions people that the max upload cap on all unlimited lines was 1024kbpps, I assume they try to enforce this rigorously....
