Changing Sync Speeds :: PlusNet...

It is doing it about every hour. There has not been a single event that the netgear DG834G has recognised as a resync. No logs that the PPP session has been renegotiated. And it always comes back as being 5 or 6 dB SNR - both before and after the event (I'm taking stats every 5 minutes and seeing no variation of SNR outside of that 5-6dB). The strange thing is that it is increasing speed as well as decreasing - normally you would see...

I agree that a Netgear would usually show this. Have you tried another logging program such as Routerstats. One other thing - are you on a fixed IP address or a variable. If variable is there any indication that it has changed You could also raise a ticket with Plusnet to ask for the connection log over the same period.

Welcome to the club. Same story here. Moved from Mad as a Fish (MaaF - which should even be on the same network as PN) only a few weeks ago. Had a solid 6.5Mb or so BB connection with MaaF. Then we changed to PlusNet a few weeks ago and now have a solid 350Kbps download and 50 Kbps upload speed. Problem started 8 days ago and PN do not seem to even think there is a problem and have not responded at all, despite the fact that we spent more...

The PPP session may not be dropping if the modem is resyncing quickly, i.e. burst of noise is so short and resync time fast that it can do some before the PPP session timesout. Seen a few modems do this. Andrew Ferguson, andrew@thinkbroadband.com www.thinkbroadband.com - formerly known as ADSLguide.org.uk

Thanks Asbo. Yes, that explains the Bronze traffic. I am not getting anything in the Gold Plated and Silver streams so I am on the correct profile. It still doesn't explain why my traffic is throttled to 0.8 because it is supposed to be at Line speeds ... or is it? .......................................................................................................... wheel nut we came to the conclusion that the app is counting the upstream traffic as well hence why pro and payg users are also seeing 0x00 bronze recorded. you shouldnt see anything under 0x80 gold on payg, if you getting gold plated and sliver allso as 0x00 bronze then somthing is wrong Edited by ASBOdog (Tue 17-Nov-09 03:09:42)

Nope, they are most likely both correct. The speed test is to a dedicated testing server and is not 'traffic managed' by PlusNet. The download will be 'traffic managed' both by PlusNet and most likely the server you are downloading from. Even more so by PlusNet if you are downloading from one of the known file hosting/sharing websites. - Peter -- plus net ADSL...

The sync speed is changing because you are losing your connection. This is a worrying sign and it is quite possible your default noise margin will increase unless you can find the cause. The fact that your router log isn't showing the disconnection is probably down to the router not logging it Edited by Oldjim (Tue 24-Nov-09 11:41:39)

Hi I moved from MAAF to Plusnet in Feb this year, and around summertime I noticed my line started behaving very badly. After raising a ticket with Plusnet they eventually raised a request for BT to switch interleaving ON , which surprised me, as I had always had interleaving with MAAF. So it might be an issue driven by the changeover and Plusnet's default view on interleaving ...

The Netgear DG834G is always a good choice. It's very good at keeping Sync'd on unstable/noisy lines as I well know!! You can also setup Remote Administration on it and connect to it directly to check stats etc - assuming he's got a ststic IP that is One point though, try to get the DG834G v3 though as the chipset they use is slightly better than previous/future releases on ...
