Well after two weeks, delay I am pleased to say that his email is now working. The downside to all of this is he has lost emails during that period and has had to pay Nominet £11.50 to set the Registrar tag and pay Plusnet £28.75 to host his domain for a year. Hiya, Alastair's latency doesn't depend on how far away he is from his exchange - it's how far the packets have to travel (ie: Scotland to London and back again). Admittedly, his latency is very good for where he is! We have some work in place to try and improve the latency on hop 4, which I believe is happening in the next few days. Put your affairs in order. By which I mean, try to make sure you are not reliant on ANYTHING from the plusnet/madasafish/whatever empire, domain hosting, Email addresses, registration at forums..... And then plan your exit from the hands of the evil barstewards. Very likely the router reboots and re-connects will be used as an excuse to dump your speed down to 250K - after which you will go slowly mad. And your geranium will catch mildew....

It is my new isp. I went to Xilo but didn't want to showboat it around the forum. A bit more expensive, but I have no limits to worry about, though I am a low user (12- 14GB per month). Speeds seem to be the same without the slow downs I was experiencing. Am on the C&W ADSL2+ LLU product, but have had it downgraded to ADSL2 for stability problems.
