I think what john wants initially will be to see what is happening 24/7 to the noise margin. So Lite will be OK. Then reading the error counts from the router every so often will be fine. No doubt he will shout next time he sees the thread if he wants more . He knows what he is talking about. http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/radsl.htm... Removing the ring wire can help to reduce the amount of errors, sometimes you cannot remove the errors, but choice of hardware can help, e.g. if I try a netgear dg834GT my line resyncs every few minutes, but with an original DG834G it stays up for 100's of hours Andrew Ferguson, andrew@thinkbroadband.com www.thinkbroadband.com - formerly known as ADSLguide.org.uk

In reply to a post by systemx : At the moment, they are only used with underground feeds and are fitted about a metre above ground, however there is no reason why they could not be used with overhead lines and fitted higher, its only necessary to be able to plug in to it and the test could be carried out at ground level, using an extension, its early days. Oh no i agree entirely with you, it could be fitted higher up, though realistically how...

Do you think it could be a side effect of the shaping hardware. Its possible the speedcheckers have a correction factor to get from the (java) measured speed to either download or line speed ie. measure 7.0 => nominal line speed 7.2. If the test gets prefetched/buffered in some way by the shaping hardware then the correction factor is wrong and you get a speed above the line speed. I would not go as far as to say that damage is done on purpose, or that the charges rased in the program were justified, but people do not think. eg when having new windows fitted, or and extension, or that old favorite for underground cables, fitting fence posts.

here is what I think. I think the issue with the music companies is nothing to do with sales. I think it is 2 things. 1 - They dont like some peasant, pleb whatever you want to call the guy on the street, getting something for free they think should be paid for (or even not available at all). Even if it means the person as a result then buys music, the fact they got just 1 track free must be making these exec's heads explode with...

Actually it's not getting worse the share of traffic that P2P and newsgroups comprise is actually shrinking thanks to the increasing popularity of iPlayer, You Tube, etc.
Could iPlayer and You Tube be the death knell of UK internet would be a more appropriate question in that context.

An interesting take from a provider, that reserves the right as all do to cease service on those carrying out illegal activities, and no court proof is needed if the ISP decides to do so.
TalkTalk is a provider that already traffic manages P2P speeds, so sharing on its network may be lower in volume per user than some other providers.

so many people that are into music and buy it are also into pirating it ?
Someone who isn't into music won't pirate it, so their low spend says more about their demand for music than their ethics, perhaps.

on LLU you'll have to ask your current ISP what the cancel charge (if any) is. The BTW charge relates to ADSL provided by them, as I understand it.
If there's no dial tone on the socket at the new place you may have a connection fee up to about £125 but check various suppliers and look out for special offers.
Whether you think its fair or you're prepared to pay it is up to you....

I'm not sure everyone is willing to read 7 pages, especially as there was no end result.
Just to short circuit this a little are you cable or ADSL?
If you are ADSL could you tell us your BT exchange and your router stats?

There are known congestion issues with O2's BT product currently. You might find better service elsewhere but do post who you are considering to use as some other ISPs that use BT-based services also can have congestion problems.

Cash in hand will get someone sacked, jobs and cable/time are tracked very well, and the job would not be on the records.
43dB attenuation and 7995 sync is in the range you expect from ADSL2+ at that attenuation, so your bad cable is not really making that much difference (6Mbps to 9Mbps is what to expect for 43dB attenuation)
Paying Openreach would have to be arranged via the ...
