Speed reduced, nothing I can do...

Ah! As I said, a few people are having trouble with the BT speed tester at the moment so I assumed it wasn't playing. My remarks about the BT speed still apply then, but the TBB test today is pretty poor, I would guess either pure congestion or traffic management. Yesterday's test may just be worse because it was later, or if you are getting lots of disconnects then maybe yesterday your profile was even lower, then rose...

The other HDMI sources, are they using the same HDMI lead and socket on the TV? If your problem is anything like mine, nothing short of being hooked up to a newl line card will fix it. Unfortunately, you will have to go right to the top to be heard and taken seriously - you are wasting your time talking to the call centres. P.S As a BT insider admitted to me the call centre staff have no power to recommend or implement even the most minor change. H Edited by has (Fri 06-Nov-09 19:45:31)

Do a speed test on http://speedtester.bt.com/ to see what the IP profile is set to. Sometimes you get a random noise spike on the line causing a low re-sync and it takes a couple of days for the speeds to come back up again... Or it could be throttling - once you exceed ~50gig in a month (up and down combined) they start throttling you - once you get the "80"gig warning letter they really start clamping down... but sometimes...

Yes, we think it is, too. We know Porthleven well - in fact we have a market stall there once a week in the summer so we have possibly met (scary, huh?). When I went into town this morning BT had the road up so there was clearly a line fault which has now been fixed and my speed is back to its usual blistering 700kb/s (at least I can look at the sea while I'm waiting for downloads . I had had a particularly frustrating episode with...

If you switch your homehub OFF do the BT Fon and BT Openzone spots go away?
Just checking you are not seeing a neighbours.
What version of Windows are you using, you probably want to configure it to only connect to these networks manually, to avoid it jumping connection.
Did you say yes to allowing your homehub to be used as a BT Fon device?

Well. Do your speeds vary quite a lot depending on time of day?
Are you checking speeds wired to the router or wireless?
All the accelerator does is filter the ring/bell wire , which can improve your connection speed.
As yours I expect was already 8128kbps it won't have made any difference.
If the answer to my question at the start is "Yes" then to cut a lot of ...

Why can't they just post the info so anyone else with the problem can see the answer?
That's half the point of forums.
Fair enough where customer-specific line and/or personal info is involved then they should use PM.

I reported the problem this morning and was told it would be looked into. Still nothing and now my speeds are around 300kbps. In all the years I have used broadband, I have never experienced anything so bad. I am tempted to cancel my contract and pay the penalty.

BT will reduce charges if they think they are going to lose a customer, they do it to a lot of people. It also depends what they reduced it to from what as you may be able to get a better deal from another ISP. Also going for another 12 month contract means they have now got you for at least 12 months and it is better to have you as a customer at a lower price than not at all.
Is ...

I am paying £5 a month for 20MEG Unlimited and unthrottled broadband. The catch is, its not with BT.
My point is you can find better deals by looking around at other providers, BT are not the best in terms of service or price.
