It's strange how you had loads of disconnections the other day when I only had a few, and vice versa, even though we're both on non-LLU. I think it definitely depends on which server you're on!

maybe dns, or quite possibly this old computer that I'm using is just not up to dealing with modern browsers and all the latest windows updates that is slowing things down too. 700 athlon cpu, 640 ram, windows xp pro. I think a new desktop is in the pipeline some time soon, was thinking of Mesh but will have a look around. Joe

Not here, actually our connection has been stable since Friday 13th after we had to turn the router off due to power cuts in the stormy weather.

Your IP won't tell you if your on IP-Stream or LLU, If however your on LLU its unlikely AOL will put you onto IP-Stream as it costs them more to do so and based on their website if you are not on their network (LLU) you'll have to pay £5 more (afaik) What problems do you have, dns issues?

Had these phishing emails in the past. They usually end up on the wrong account anyway so instantly know they're fake. Powered by AOL 512Kb Broadband via a BT Voyager 2100 Wireless Router

There's absolutely no reason to ditch AOL for this reason. Any router will work on it, it's just a matter of getting the settings right; there's a certain ambiguity to them on AOL. Ditch the AOL supplied 1-port modem and use the DG834G! AOL now supplies proper routers with their BB; D-Links recently and Netgear DG834Gs a couple years back. As to the settings, look here for ...

Could be anything, but try changing the DNS to 'openDNS'. (www.opendns.com) for starters This is the string the router uses to find things on the internet. The user instructions are quiet helpful.

ADSL shows up as an incompatible product. Maybe AOL was in the process of moving you to LLU and things have got messed up If router is showing a decent ADSL connection, i.e. what are the downstream and upstream connection speeds? Then chances are you are connected at the exchange and just needs account info sorting out Andrew Ferguson, andrew@thinkbroadband.com www....
