ADSL shows up as an incompatible product.
Maybe AOL was in the process of moving you to LLU and things have got messed up
If router is showing a decent ADSL connection, i.e. what are the downstream and upstream
connection speeds? Then chances are you are connected at the exchange and just needs account info sorting out

Eh? Anyone can access the AOL portal from anywhere, if you mean here http://www.aol.co.uk/, including access to AOL members' emails and account info.

If you fail the
credit check then you won't get a laptop from aol, and if you pass then you will get a laptop and slow speeds for a couple of years........

Have you tried using a different MTU setting in the router? I have mine set at 1492 though others use 1450.
When this has happened before it was possible to get around it by using an open
DNS server, you could try that, does the problem occur in Firefox and IE or are you using a different browser?

Hi,
Im on AOL as well and I dont have the speed problems you are experiencing... Can you post your line stats at all?
I find at about 5.20 every day my connection slows for the evening the worst ive seen it is 100k but on average i get 0.5meg in the evenings- during the day i get the full speed my line can handle which is about 2.5 meg.

Check your settings:-
Control panel:-
Internet options:-
Connections: Ensure never dial is checked.
It sounds as if your AOL software is trying to connect by dial-up.

What's all this about "4th contract" and "usual retention reduced rate"?
I have been on the 2Mbps £9.99 deal for three years (August 2006) and have never needed to renew my contract or negotiate a retention deal. It just carries on. So what am I doing wrong (or right)?
Mine is non-
LLU, if this makes a difference.

I seem to remember whenever anyone contacted them about slow speeds in the evenings, they were fobbed off with the usual "rest your router" / "blow on your USB ports" advice. So effectively, they're admitting that there were problems with the evening speeds and they've now invested £1 million to fix them! It's a shame they couldn't have been more honest about it when people called them ...
