Can I downgrade to Windows XP ?
Published (2009-12-27 20:27:00)
A friend just made a suggestion. How about using VMWare or something similar. Is it possible to have a Windows 7 PC boot up and go straight in to Windows XP in a virtualized environment, so he would not even know he was running Windows 7?

$ 90 ....and it's still cheaper than a Mac! If he can't move from XP to 7, he's going to find the transition to OSX even more difficult.

This isn't over, people. I have to decide by Monday morning! DH now thinks that Magic Jack will be the solution to our telephone issue.

I think with a Magic Jack it has to be plugged into your computer and your computer always on for the phone to work. Normal VoIP works by having a separate adapter, which the phone connects too, plugged into your router and the phone works regardless of your computer being on or not.

Computer shutting down???

Hi, is there any free diagnostic tool that will help track down why my computer is shutting down for no reason. It's mainly when it's converting music for itunes at the moment as if it's overloaded. Was running a bit slow previously so I doubled the RAM which helped speed. I've just done a total wipe and reload of Hardrive as it was doing similar the other month then just went into wouldn't boot up mode and...

So we've never had wireless anything at home. I know nothing about it. I bought Mr J an Xbox 360 for Crimbo with lots of accessories. One of the things I bought was this: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wirel...46967&sr= 8-2 I thought that's all he would need for wireless service to the xbox. I was wrong wasn't I? Do we need a wireless router box on the computer first to get wireless service? Go easy on me please, I...

Besides overheating (clogged processor fan) etc. ..... Weak power supply. Do have a careful look at the capacitors near the processor, are they bulged at the top or leaking? ... if so.. motherboard is shagged.

My FIL has a Roku. We decided to go for the Samsung Blu-Ray player with Netflix functionality built in. The two devices work almost identically as far as Netflix is concerned. Ethernet will give you a more stable feed to the box, but you're throwing an unknown quantity in there using an ethernet splitter. If indeed you are actually using a splitter....which aren't common these days.....you...

I had AT&T which was just OK, but they are going to discontinue VOIP. I was going to go the Skype route but decided to go with Vonage. Free calls to a landline in the UK was the decider, since my wife calls her sisters in the UK several times a week. Had it less than a month and so far so good, no problems, quality is good, and the nice guy at the Indian call center was very helpful.
