Coincidentally (or not) trading on the London Stock Exchange was suspended at 10.35am today with the FTSE down nearly 100 points. Glad I did some selling earlier this week.

I'm not sure I follow this. If, while flying into Dubai, I consume, say, two cans of Heineken, I can be breath-tested and arrested at Dubai airport, even if clearly sober and behaving myself. But if I (as a tourist) consume two cans of Heineken at, say, the Double Decker, then walk peacefully back to my hotel room at the Dusit, I'm fine?

think you'll be fine with regards to going out etc...lots of places to go to, bars, clubs...all can feel like a bit of a holiday, especially if you have a bit of money to spend...
lots of single people here as well, so that shouldn't be a problem either...although it's apparently not always that easy to get a group of friends started, guess it depends on your personality as ...

That's a rather worrying story but not unusual over here. So what line of work was your boyfriend in? Are you working too? It could have been worse...they could have deported you too for co-habiting out of wedlock. As you are presumably aware, it's a Police state here and you need to be very careful.

90 - 100k would get you a good quality one-bed apartment in one of the premium developments or possibly a 2 bed in one of the lower grade developments.
If you are on the SZR side then you have shops at Marina Walk and Marina Mall - if on the JBR side then the choice is more limited although you are closer to the restaurants and cafes on JBR Walk.
