So, I started a thread on the *perfect* upper for 3gun in the 3gun section... guess what all the pro-firebird people pointed me here... so now you get to help me out :)... I need an education... I see at least 3 different designs of lowers and at least 2 different upper receivers. So, what's what? I like the version that appears in white on the fledgling website, but looking at an FPX-15 lower, it doesn't look like this... Yes I...

Hi Alan I will try to sort this out for you. We have made two types of recievers, the FB15 billet set and the FPX15 forged sets The FB series were all sold even before they were complete, we will build them again but that is not in the near future The FPX series is the more common, and we have them in stock FPX recievers are quite a cut above standard forged recievers and have several improvements This reciever set works quite well to build...

Alan, FWIW The FPX 15 receivers from Jim are really not in the same category as most off the rack "forged" receivers. First you are getting top quality 7075 forging. Don't think that with recent runs of receivers that there haven't been many fly by night enterprises substituting material in their make a buck quick receivers. Also you are getting a receiver that above all is square and true to include all pinholes...

Alan, I'll comment quickly on the quality of Firebird FPX 15 receivers as I've built a few complete AR's using other brands such as - Stag, DPMS, Rock River, Olympic Arms, and Sun Devil... The 2 FPX 15 lowers I completed were perfect in pin alignment and the pin fit was excellent. All my Pmags work with them and the finish is excellent. I like the set screw in the lower that's used to "tighten" the upper...

Absolutely brilliant!!!! With it pinching to attach it will be a HELL of a lot more rigid than the setscrew stuff out there now. I've never liked the idea of a couple little setscrews being the ONLY thing that keeps the gasblock in position.
