I have never seen anything related to birth defects and fenugreek or blessed thistle. The primary reason for not taking these during pg is because of uterine stimulation (esp during late pg) and they are considered an emmenagogue, anagent that induces or hastens menstrual flow: http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milksupply/fenugreek.html#pregnancy http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milksupply/herbal-rem_a.html#bthistle

another bf after surgery ?

they also pump your stomachfull of gas. does that maybe do something? I am going to be calling the lactation consultant at the hospital on monday. I also have been looking at meds on the kellymom and vicoden is on on there as an okay med. Does this doc have something against bf I wonder or really strict about goofy things like that? odd b/c it does make sense that c-section moms bf when they wake up.

I can't find blessed thistle online. And I have NO idea where a health food store is near me. Do YOU know where I could get some? I've been on the pumping and working board a little and asked there but nobody seemed to know. However, I did buy some Mothers Milk Plus (liquid - NASTY) that I think has blessed thistle in it. I haven't noticed that being any more helpful to be honest. Thanks for the forewarning on Reglan....

BM Odor?!
Published (2008-11-18 08:34:00)
I had just thoroughly washed all the pump parts, so I don't think it could've been residue. It seems like my actual milk smelled ok, I think it was just the horn/my breast that had the odor. I guess it could've been that my breast was actually sweating....it's just so odd that it has only happened twice in the month I've been pumping. I guess I shouldn't worry as long as my milk smells fine...it's just so...

LOL -- I do the same thing! I'm always finding some bruise and thinking now how in the heck did I get that? Although I can honestly say I have never bruised my boob before! It looks like it is fading so maybe it was a broken blood vessel or something. I have no idea. I'll watch it and see. thanks:) http://b1.lilypie.com/yzUcm7.png

Diagnosing low supply
Published (2008-11-15 02:40:00)
I haven't yet. I was told about ICAN by a midwife in my previous LLL group (I miss it SOOOO much!) and at the time, it was really painful to read about it and see the information because it was only a few months after the birth and I was feeling really guilty and like I failed Ellie big-time. Then because I got divorced and I knew there wouldn't be any more in the near future, I wasn't as much looking for birth information. Now...

I just noticed this weird spot on my right breast... kind of looks like a bruise, but not really. It's about the size of a thumbprint, and it kind of resembles a hicky but also kind of like a bruise... it doesn;t hurt. it is kind of in the middle but closer to the nipple.  it isn;t really in a spot that he could have poked or anything and it isn't sensitive to the touch at all. I wasn;t ...

**also posted on EP Board** Hey ladies, I am currently breastfeeding my son, and pumping part time while I'm at work. Twice now during long pumping sessions, I have smelled a foul odor when I removed the pump from my breast. The smell strongly resembles body odor, and it is NOT pleasant! It seems that both times this occurred I had been pumping on one breast for quite a while, so I'm not ...

Hi there, first time poster on this board. My name is Heather, and I have supply issues. (Now I sound like I'm at an AA meeting.) I've been taking fenugreek for a few months now, trying to make enough milk for my 4 month old. I seem to need to keep increasing my fenugreek to keep up my milk supply, and have found myself taking at least 15 capsules a day. I saw the link on kellymom that says I ...

I think AF is about to return (after almost 18 mos pp ... so I can't really complain). I've been experiencing signs of ovulation (although I'm not temping / charting so not sure). Anyway, I've noticed that DD's diapers haven't been as wet the last couple of days (and I of course track her intake pretty closely). With the less wet diapers and the signs of ovulation, I'm thinking my supply is ...

Okay so I went to meet with the doc/surgeon about my gallbladder surgery and he says that you cannot bf after surgery and cannot for two days because of the anesthia. He also says that I cannot until I go off the pain meds (2days- to a week) because they are a narcotic and I could over dose the baby. He also mentioned that it's vicoden which is what my normal doc gave me for the pain that I was ...

Hi!  I was hoping one of you helpful ladies could post a link or two or more that I could print out and give to my daughter's nanny regarding bottle feeding her.  My dd takes playtex nursers slow flow just fine and will nurse too, but I worry that since she'll be getting bottles for most of her feedings for the 3 days I'm at work, that she'll get a preference for the bottle and not want to ...

My daughter Ellie is 21 months and still nursing. I am thrilled, as we had problems all along the way. Her first week home she became severely dehydrated when I was attempting to exclusively breastfeed. The doctor recommended that we supplement, which cleared up the dehydration, but I felt like a total failure because I wanted so badly to nurse and never use formula. I tried everything-- nursing...

I recently added a DHA supplement to my vitamin ritual.   I rarely eat foods with DHA in them, and want to make sure my son is getting enough in my BM.  Are these OK?  I am kind of freaked out (and distrusting) of them b/c they are made and sold by Enfamil.
