Cathi, I felt a great wave of love for you when I read your post. You are such a dear sweet woman and I'm praying so hard for you, Amanda and little Ella and your whole family. May you have strength to face whatever happens but most of all I pray that little Ella will come through this ok and that that the scans are wrong - I do hate to hear that they were bad. I could kick the wall and swear right now at the injustice and unfairness in...

( It's OK that you made the appointment to see an oncologist first.......he will be able to help you understand your biopsy pathology report..........some surgeons are too "gung-ho" and can scare you into getting an unnecessary mastectomy \(which happened to me\). My tumor was also triple positive with some DCIS..........as Cathy said above, your oncologist will determine whether or not you need a FISH test - but if your...

( swimangel72 With your permission I am going to copy what you wrote and keep it with me. It is such a good, good description of what it feels like to be newly diagnosed, how it does get better and how to treat yourself well. I try to tell people to treat themselves like they would their child, if their child was sick. Take care of yourself, treat youself to joyful activities. But you...

My mom was just diagnosed
Published (2009-11-24 21:31:18)
We got a (good) surprise call from a surgeon today who had a canellation and wanted to see my mother right away as to ease her mind before the holiday. Which I thought was extremely nice. The surgeon was very nice and very positive. She told my mother right away "don't worry, you are going to be totally fine, and I have a lot of good news for you today." We found out that my mother's cancer is HER2/neu NEGATIVE,...

If you haven't already, you may want to join the December 2009 chemo group here. Now try to relax and enjoy Thanksgiving with what sounds like an incredibly supportive DH! Deanna , )

Swimangel -- your words were si what my life has been for the past 2 weeks. I heard your words in my head today as I was trying to decide whether or not I felt like going to our local Sunday Stitch'n'Bitch ... I went while thinking "when the going gets tough, the tough go knitting..." :-) thank you, and thank you all for your words.

lamsaved, So sorry you need to make these decisions, but glad you find this forum to consult. Exactly one year ago last Monday I had a single, right-sided mastectomy. Like you, I agonized over getting the double done right then & there, but finally succumbed to the weight of the decision and opted to do only what I had to do at the time. It turned out to be the right decision for me for ...

HI. Just a note to say hello and let you know that it is totally normal to feel scared -- there is just a lot of unknowns... so much info, terms to learn. It was a good feeling when they finally gathered all the info and developed a plan to remove it. But, cancer \( even the fast growing kind which I had\) grows relatively slowly and a few days/weeks won't \( as far as I know\) all of a ...

Peggy - A very close friend of mine was about your age and pre-menopausal two years ago when she was also dx'd w/ the same type of bc. She is doing fine today. She tells me that it is a very slow growing and generally relatively stable type of bc. She felt fortunate that she had that type. She also did not lose her breast, she had a lumpectomy. I hope this helps a little. I know all this is...

Liane you are fortunate to be treated at MD, I know people \(non BC\) that have went there for their Tx and all were very happy with their care. I am going to Sloan Kettering in NYC and parking for 2 hours is $35 so of course I am thinking $15 sounds good for a whole day! It is great that you have a shuttle though to take you there and back. Keep us posted to how things are going. Keeping ...

Dear Jancie, Thank you so much for responding I also have IDC and it is also grade1. I don't see too many grade 1 cancers here. Mine was 2cm and I had a excisional biopsy but the margins are not clear enought so i have to have a reincision. They have not taken any lumph nodes out yet they will do that when they reincision. Does taking a couple of lymph node out hurt very bad? I think they are ...

"Stage" has to do with the size of the tumor and whether lymph nodes or further sites are involved. Stage I is 2 centimeters or less in size, with no lymph node involvement. "Grade" has to do with characteristics of the cells -- what they look like under the microscope, which usually indicates how fast they are reproducing. There are three Grades: Grade 1 looks a lot like normal breast ...

Sue, I understand " shell shocked" completely. We've all been there! It is the very hardest time when you first hear that cancer word! To answer your question. I doubt that waiting the weeks until Oct 9th for your mast will make any difference. The cancer has probably been there awhile. I've heard that we usually have cancer for years before its discovered - so a few weeks won't matter. I was ...

Hi. You are where I was 2 years ago only I was 62 then. I was worried about some of the very same things you list. Losing hair. Remember it's only hair and it will come out so some people get their hair dresser to cut it off before it comes out.Taking Control feeling. Some of the women have a party with their friends. I was able to just tug a little on mine and it came out in the shower. But ...
