( Elizabeth , welcome back home barbe , hope you are doing well I went to a workshop at Women's College today - all about recon. OHIP covers everything except - get this ... the final step ... the tatooing....they delisted the tatoo that makes the nipple look real.....that is so demeaning!!!! , )

( Linda - I saw that article and found it very interesting. It calmly and factually rebutted her nonsense - and I agree that those who support her just don't want to hear it. hrf - what a ridiculous bureaucratic decision about the tattooing. and good boots too Elizabeth? hope so! , )

Heck I don't know pure what, soap I guess. They don't use that phrase anymore but it is stuck in my head with countless other useless things.

( Mantra, I'm sure Mumayan is right. After all, if OHIP will pay for a cosmetic breast lift, in order to match the reconstructed one, I can't see why it wouldn't also cover a proph mx and recon. It's a whole lot cheaper than covering the cost of surgery/chemo/rads if cancer ever pops up the "good" breast. BTW, I've been thinking of doing the same thing, and then having...

( Thanks Linda and Barbe! I should save the money from the co-pays I no longer have to pay -- I bet in a year I'll have a nice chunk of change to buy a couple of pairs of guilt-free shoes -- designer shoes, and ones not on sale! Oooh, without the insurance deductable I could go to the Caribbean too! I can't wait to meet you too! Hey Barbe, you can give me an honourary butt kick! In...

( Caroline, I am taking it at night and with food. The nausea is better today, so I hope my body is getting used to it. I will definitely look into getting the test to see if I metabolize the tamox. Yo, Good luck with your surgery. You are at a great hospital and that makes a difference. Mary , )

Hi YoYo44; I did meet with Dr. Dionisopolous last year but to be honest I did not have much confidence in him. I know that Dr. Zelt specializes with breast reconstruction and I do beleive that he does DIEP recon.aswell. You must have a referal to see him if you are a b.c.patient as it will be covered by medicare...........something noone ever told me about. I was prepared to pay the $8000...

I'm in Sask. Now here is where I'm getting confused. When you say private insurance, does that mean through an employer, or through Blue Cross or something? What is Trillium? I'm thankful every single day for our system. I'm sure I'd be on my way to homeless without it. I think we'd be hard-pressed to find someone who feels their care has been rationed. To add further to our emergency visit ...

I think it has to be dinner for hrf and probably others. It should be an early dinner so it will be much easier to make a reservation. That time involves traffic problems on a Friday, but that isn't a big deal. I can probably make it, but if it is near Yonge I'd probably TTC.

Hi Konakat, thank you - a friend told me that walk-ins didn't give specialist/test referrals and I just about died of sheer terror. Fortunately, he was misinformed! Still, it feels very weird to be without a family doctor, it's kind of an insane situation that they have gotten so scarce.

No I did not join the Cancer Society in Canada. Can you direct me to it? I think you are right re the rarity of LCIS. That may explain the conflicting info/direction to take. Thanks ,

Hi YoYo, The testing is not routine and my oncologist was neither supportive nor encouraging. However, my research indicated 50% of women prescribed tamoxifen do not metabolize it properly, and if I was going to take this drug for 5 years, I wanted to know it was going to work for me. There are several labs in the US that do this testing. \(You can google CYP2D6 and find them.\) I ...

Hello Luah, Sorry you have to go through this. You must be very worried. I hope, for your sake, that everything will turn out okay. It sounds like you are going to the Breast Clinic. Probably 15-20 women will all be brought in at one time and they will circle around visiting the various specialists - mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsy and surgeon. I was told I had cancer before my ...
