Published (2009-12-15 12:30:00)
Oh Honey I am so sorry about your mom, no it doesn't seem fair. Just know they have come a long way with breast cancer, so many women now survive and lead normal lives. We are going to believe your mom will be one of those survivors. Try to get her to come to the site we will help her through this journey. We have such great ladies here and we will be there if she needs us. So try to take it easy till you have more information....

Radiologist said I have cancer
Published (2009-12-14 07:22:00)
Hi I am Christan, also a nurse. First off the radiologist should never have told you you have cancer. They should only read the film, score it, and recommend a biopsy if needed. That is the only way to be 100%. He may be right but a difinative dx can only be given after bx. It is good that you have a good support system, good luck with your biopsy. Please keep us posted and my prayers are with you.

Honey: You listen to the ladies here. They are absolutely right and you should never feel embarassed by your lack of hair. As it stands, your hair will grow back. I agree that you need to be comfortable with your self and if you made a pact with your sister that is more important than her feeling embarrassed by your appearance. I met an older lady at the radiation center back in...

After mastectomy, then what?
Published (2009-12-11 09:45:00)
Well ladies in the past 12 months I had my chemo, mastectomy, ovaries removed and my reconstruction now on Arimidex for 5 yrs. But now what? My oncologist says no more mamograms now after mastectomy. I wanted to ask what measures have any of you taken for after care. Do you have ultra sounds, MRI's, chest exrays?? We all have the fear of the cancer coming back. I feel like I want my entire body scanned head to toe every 6...

Hi Patty47, I am newly diagnoised my self; a little over a month now and I am in shape myself to be given advise to you. I do, however, would like to say that you have to think about yourself right now and stay strong so you can win this battle. Beliieve me, I know it's hard, have't mastered it myself but you need to try. I think if he is truly doing these hateful things to you, you will use...

Thank you all so much! My mom came home from the hospital and is in a pretty good place right now. She is so determined and ready to get the ball rolling on whatever might need to be done to get her back to being healthy! You have all made me feel so welcome and I can't wait for her to get this same warm feeling :) Much appreciation, Kristin.

the best thing for your mother right now is having family support, and the fact that you wrote tells us you care very much for her and will be there for her walking each step with her. I wish I had had a daughter, but it was not meant to be. I did have my spouse and mother in law with me so I was blessed. Have your mom come on board; we have wonderful ladies here all in different stages of this...

Shannon, Thank you for the encouragment. I have found many very pretty scarfs and a couple of really cute hats. This is the way I am choosing to go, and I first time do not feel GUILTY or ashamed of what others think. I didnt (as none of us did) ask for this disease to invade our lives, so I sgree we have to work with what makes us feel the best. When I was first diagnosed and was letting people know, the very first thing I told...

I want to also wish everyone a wonderful Holiday season. I agree with Cajun Lady about the war. It is such a tragedy to lose so many of our young men and still be at war.
I also want to wish that everyone who comes here have a great, healthy, prosperous and joyous new year and that they find a cure for all cancers in 2010.
I wish my brother finds a...

Hi SDK,
I also went back was a mastectomy (bilateral) after having a lumpectomy and getting a final path report that showed a more aggessive approach was needed. A part of me asked why I didn't I just get the bilateral in the first place, but the fact is all we can do is make the best decision at the time based on the information we have. I am...

Oh Martina! I am so sorry for your losses. Your girfriend is lucky to have you by her side for support. She will need it more than anything right now especially this close to the holidays. As hard as it is to lose someone you love especially in such a tragic way (I know) I always found comfort in knowing that my loved one was not suffering anymore. My ...

Hi honey, you know what, don't worry what she thinks, you do what makes you comfortable. I have 3 wigs, and I wore one twice and was miserable the whole time. If wearing hats and scarves makes you feel comfortable, then you do it. She should have not told you that, that was not kind. You have enough to worry about than to worry what she thinks. I am sorry ...

Patty47 I have to tread lightly here and give him the benefit of the doubt. You need to get him to a doctor, ASAP! Of course you might find that not a small feat. He is either ill, or he is unable to handle your diagnosis, or he is pure mean. Have you noticed him show any kind of indifference before you were diagnosed? Tell you what honey, get him to a ...

I don't know anything about this medication but I will tell you what I have been through. My cancer is estrogen fed so therefore I can't have those hormones. I don't know if you are estrogen positive but it is better to not do hormones when you have cancer just in case it is estrogen positive. There are ointments out in the market for vaginal dryess ...

Are we talking about a lumpectomy or mastectomy? It is normal to be scared. I went through the biopsy and lumpectomy and a second surgery to clear the margins. After that I had radiation. Of course I was pretty scared throughout the entire process. Try to remain calm if you can. The not knowing is what is causing you to be scared. It really was not ...

Oh Sheri, honey what a toudhing story, my tears are running down my cheeks. You are so right she is right there with you, like the poem I sent you, a half step behind. Hi, My initial biopsy showed DCIS and therefore I did not have a SLNB with the lumpectomy. But, the lumpectomy pathology showed a microinvasion, extensive DCIS and grade III. So, that meant that I had to then have the SLNB as a separate surgery. I had radioactive material injected into the nipple prior to the surgery. This did not hurt at all. I had ...
