BB, the reason Miralax is supposed to be safe taking every day is because it is not a stimulant the way many laxatives are. My gastro doctor told me it was safe to use every day for that reason.

Deev, Your doctors probably should do MRI's of the entire spine. Mine did, but did one at a time, starting with a lumbar MRI. I had all of the same kinds of pain you have. The chest pain was a wrap around, crushing feeling. The best way for me to describe it is that it felt as though someone parked a truck on my rib cage and was rocking it from side to side. Mine turned out to be spasms from the whiplash injury, as Mark stated it could be...

Bad Back, I wrote a long reply but to explain it all I would have had to get graphic. Just know that my Urogyn and PM both wanted me to switch to Lactulose for reasons other than the pain meds. So, my situation is a bit different. It does seem to work faster when I do use it and it seems to be more gentle; no bloating or gas or anything like that.

I'm no Dr. So read my sig. Lol. Anyway I'm going to venture that stenosis is part or all of your problem. Based on what a friend of mine goes through. At your age I'd be finding out if your a candidate for ADR. But again, I'm just me. Lol.

Hi ~ Miralax would turn me inside out! So I use Senna instead. It's a NATURAL herb that my doctor recommended, since laxatives give me cramps. The Senna works GREAT and it doesn't cause cramps. It just provides bulk, and keeps me regular. I usually take 2, and sometimes 3 if I'm having particular trouble, and I get results within hours. Hope this helps. You can find in with the herbs in any pharmacy or store that sells herbs....

vitrectomy and spinal fusion
Published (2009-12-11 23:30:00)
The face down position is standard parctice for this type of surgery. The doc makes three incisions in the eye and sucks out all the vitrious fluid (basically) and any additional material that is warranteed. Then they inject a gas bubble into the eye, after closing the hole in the macula which is at the back of the eye. The bubble then rises to the back of the eye to hold the closed hole in position. There is to be zero face up, including...

Hi there, Welcome to BT, but I am sorry under the circumstances! Weakness in the legs could and is realso to see an Orthopedic Surgeon or a Neuro Surgeon. It is really your choice. Age shouldn't be an issue if you have pain and especially with the weakness. I was 39 when I had my first fusion. I chose an OSS as I thought he was the most capable doc I had seen. Ask around for someone ...

Well whether you should be worried or not isn't relevant. I think you need to take action. I would say first thing I'd be on the phone demanding to see my Dr. If they won't see you, yes. Go to the ER. As soon as you say incontinence that's nothing to mess with. From things I've read that area of the spine is particularly sensitive due to nerves going to vital organs being affected. I would say ...

The ONLY way I can really sleep is on my back BUT I must have one of those wedges under my knees to take the pressure off my back. Back patients should NOT lie FLAT on their backs. This causes too much pressure on the small of the back, and on the lumbar spine. If you don't have a lumbar wedge, use a couple of pillows, or a couch seat, etc. ~ anything that will lift your legs up higher than ...

Judy, I know the feeling well. You've fought the apprehension and made a decision and now you want things to happen as fast as possible before all the doubts and anxieties close in on you again. It's a nightmare. It's a pity doctors don't always appreciate just how important it is for the patient to feel reassured that arrangements are progressing smoothly and to plan and everything is ...

Sorry to hear of your problems but as a thoracic spinie I know what you are talking about. My problems weren't due to any injury so it was even rarer than your situation with the box falling on you. You certainly have thoracic symptoms and you should have an MRI of your thoracic spine. It is possible the damage from the injury has caused a "whiplash" injury that can effect the erector muscles ...

Holy Toledo!! You are KIDDING! How does this surgeon expect you to STAY in a face DOWN position for 2 weeks, 24/7??? Can you not even get up to use the bathroom or to eat??? Even someone with a HEALTHY back could not tolerate that position for 2 weeks. I do not understand this ~ I really don't. He's got to be out of his mind. This sounds like 19th Century medicine. Laurel, if you are having major incontinence is your surgeon aware of it? I would be in a hurry myself since it is a lumbar problem. Please look up CES. I would think your surgeon would be rushing due to the incontinence. Have you been checked out for other reasons for the incontinence? Just a thought! Kathi, it is lengthy but good to see there are doctors that are looking at our function to help diagnosis our spinal problem. I agree that he uses good imagery to get his points across.

You should see a spinal doctor either a OSS or a spinal NS. Your MRI doesn't show any remarkable issues but your symptoms are a bigger indication of something wrong. With your fall it could be ligament and muscle ie whiplash type of injury causing the pain and weakness but you need a spinal surgeon to look at you.

Paganchic, I've had RF ablations done and yes, they do work. For me, one worked wonderfully for many months (8-9), with about a 60% reduction in pain, before the symptoms gradually increased to intollerable again as the nerves regenerated. Since that first RF ablation, my doctor has done them two more times but neither one of them worked for me . My PM doc has also done nerve blocks at L1...
