Don't forget the Bullpen Theo
Published (2009-12-18 11:25:00)
He is not a mess. He had a tired shoulder and didn't tell the team. Francona wasn't happy. It was mentioned in a press conference a few weeks ago. Explains the velocity dip that most of us noticed, from the NESN radar gun. He was a 98-97 fastball thrower, and went to 93-90 with effort. Makes sense for his erratic performances with all those walks and innings that were a mess.

Need some info...On Gonzo trade

Well that makes sense. I'm really torn I who I would like to see Theo keep (if he trades for Gonzalez) because the 2 guys are really talented (Though I know it doesn't matter whether I think he should keep one guy over the other)

I know we've made some big decisions the past few days but hopefully Theo doesn't forget to fill out the bullpen since Saito and Wagner are no longer here. I only bring this up since a few rumoured replacements { Gonzalez and Soriano} have signed elsewhere. Personally I'm not high on Dustin Richardson being a LH replacement for Wagner. Just saying...

Ahhhhh Lackey being Lackey

Yep. No doubt about it, although I would also say that ARod actually pulled his weight this time as well.

I don't think they will have to trade one of the two, but they would trade Kelly over Westmoreland. At this point, he is more projectable as a major leaguer. He has the complete skill set. Kelly is a very good prospect, but his stuff isn't overwhelming. He is amazingly mature as a pitcher for his age, which is the enormous advantage he has over hitters at low levels of the minors. His fastball is in the low 90s. His curve is good...

You can have Burnett and Pettitte. The Red Sox have four starters I'll take over both of them. Well maybe three if one of them gets traded for Adrian Gonzalez.

Go for Beltre Theo
Published (2009-12-16 15:24:00)
Hey Yaz, I definately remember those old Orioles teams. Earl Weaver, Brooks, Frank, Boog, Johnson, Belanger, Blair, Buford. Good teams and great pitching staff. No, I have no idea who the other team was. Who was it? It would have to be an older team, back in the 4 man rotation days and before team relied so much on the BPs.

How about Vlad for LF?
Published (2009-12-13 13:28:00)
Don't know where you got that from my post. I was commenting on a post from Train and stated that Matsui's skill set is more similar to Vlad's than Lowell's. I don't see us signing either one of them. Hermida so far.

I don't like seeing Milan miss so much time with injuries this year. I really hope it doesn't become a trend in his career. I really love the kid, even though I was hard on him last year in the Carolina series. I know it's unfair to say, but he's really got a chance to be a "modern" Cam Neely. I want Cam, Oates and Juneau.........

I agree. And Delcarmen is a mess. Why don't they trade him, why not last year, what is the FO waiting for?

Ok... Lester<Sabathia but debatable Beckett>AJ Lackey>Pettite Dice>JobaORHughes Bucky/Wake>=Sheets also debatable Our rotation is clearly better. Our bullpen is one of the best in the majors. Depending on who we sign for 3rd base, we will either have comparable or better defense. You have the better lineup. Congratulations.

Randy, That's definiately a legitimate option. I see about 5 or 6 different directions the Sox can take it right now. Signing Beltre and simply leaving everything else as is, is a good one. You are correct, leaving the rotation as Lester, Beckett, Lackey, Dice, Buchholz and Wakefield (probably long relief in the BP) is potentially the best pitching staff in memory. On par with the old ...

I see there are benefits to signing Wang. I'm kinda surprised you are looking for Wang today. Its a bold move.

Randy, Just waiting is preferable to just posting. For the umpteenth time, it's early. LF won't be settled until January, maybe February. It's in Bays and Holliday's favor to drag it out. If the waiting is killing you, just go away for a month. Who ever signs first will set the market price for the other. They are in no hurry!!! As for 3B, it's a 1B/3B issue, IF the Sox are really ...

He can no longer play the field though and be expected to hold up for close to 6 months. He's basically the exact same player as Mike Lowell.
