I have been meaning to read this ever since it came out and when I saw it at Powell's, I had to buy it. This is essentially a 147 page essay about the development of the
computer operating system. More appropriately, it is an essay on Neal Stephenson's experiences with operating systems over the years. He takes us to the beginning of his computing experience with teletypes and punch cards ...

I checked this out during my last library visit. Dobbs hosts a show on CNN that beats the drum of anti-illegal immigration and corporate malfeseance. His book takes a very confrontational tone and has a ton of numbers to document the moving of U.S. jobs to overseas areas. Dobbs criticizes U.S. politicians for destroying a well-paid manufacturing base in our country, which also leads to ...

I've been meaning to read this one for quite some time now. I really enjoyed The
Spiritual Life of Children , which is a rather dense book for most people to read. In this one, Coles comes to the conclusion that the number one factor in helping to determine whether or not a child grows up moral, has to do with how it is modeled to him/her by parents. Coles brings out a ton of interviews and ...

I checked out Dispatches from the Edge by Anderson Cooper. I had no idea that he was related the famous
Vanderbilt family on his mother's side. I've read David Brinkley's book, as well as Bob Schieffer's. I'd have to say that media personallities don't churn out the most exciting books to read, but this one is quite different. Cooper details amazing things that just sound unreal from Sri ...

Have you read, "Charlie Wilson's War"? It purports to explain US involvment in Afghanistan during the Russian occupation. The movie was pretty fun, too. But the book is better.

Since I mentioned this book in this thread and I happened to have a review written I thought I'd post it. A Woman in Berlin by Anonymous There's a famous picture from the end of WWII, depicting a Red Army soldier hoisting the Soviet flag over
the Reichstag with a Berlin laid in ruins in the background. Most official versions of the picture are retouched to hide the fact that ...
