1. Did you test the 5 rep maxes before you started the program? 2. How long where you on the 5 x 5? 3. After how many weeks of starting did you start having the shoulder problem? what I am getting at is this - your body was used to 10 rep range. It had become efficient at lifting weights for 10 reps. However, the 5 rep range is significantly different from 10. Unless you try to max out in 5 rep range, it is difficult to estimate the proper max...

Yeah removing warm up sets makes it much cleaner.
As for the Power Cleans... it's supposed to be 5 sets of 3, afaik. I don't have book with me to make 100% certain. It's an intense movement and takes a lot out of you especially combined with squats.

Started reading some of Chad Waterbury's articles and thumbed through his book "Huge in a Hurry." His training protocals are really interesting, especially advocationg pairings of antagonistic muscle groups, and abandoning the traditional set & rep structure, actually kind of reminded me of Bob Hoffman's old York Barbell Courses, which were the first programs I started with and still might go ...
