you can pick up a great pair of starps from ironmind for like $10. I love em, and they never slip. They work great for shrugs and anything else I guess (I pretty much only use them for shrugs, as I don't believe in using them for DL)

the only parts that should be welded are the connectors
I'd suggest you hit a few different stores/gyms and just get ur measurements from there.

When I was sailing, my engineer had a workout room set up in the engine room. Anyway we used cheap standard bars, and I bent two of them with 275 on dead lifts. I'm sure it varies depending on the brand, but why risk it? If you are serious about getting strong, then buy the right equipment for the job.

I believe I did that test but can't recall of what's the max weight you can fit in one one before it tilts up. I think it was 135lbs in plates but I'm not 100% sure.
nevermind-- youre talking about a standard bar. I'm pretty sure it will try to tilt up on you. The olympic bar is heavier on the ends also due to the sleeves.

Ok, this isn't the best home gym but I actually built this out of wood I found lying around and actually used it while I was there. We had a decent gym on the camp but it was usually way over-crowded, so I "wood" use this when I had to or just wanted to...It's not very stable but I managed. I used sandbags of various sizes for weights and hung a piece of pipe off of the concrete barriers to ...

Good solid bar. I just hate paying more than I have to though and for less than $200 you can have any one of several bars here:

I really wouldn't limit myself to one brand unless there was a specific reason. Especially when I can have a York for $125

i wish all the gyms around here would upgrade to this so i can get their old equipment cheap.
the older stuff looks better to me- all the pics you posted look low quality. i'm sure it's good equipment, but they look like generic/cheap machines.

I voted for the revolver(HK TM ) plates, but I know not a lot of people would dish out money for them, so you really have to look at the market and what's affordable for people to get.
