If it were my car, I'd use M1 5W-20 at 7500-mile intervals. Excellent oil that can handle the interval easily. BTW, nice car!

to BITOG! I second Doug Hillary 's recommendation. If your owner's manual doesn't say anything more specific than an ILSAC 5w-30, that means two things: 1. Your engine is not too picky about oil. 2. You won't see much benefit if any from a "better" oil unless you drive it VERY hard. That said, if you can spring for a synthetic, don't let us stop you. It might allow easier starting on the coldest...

The Amsoil 10W-40 is a very good product and if I had an application that called for a 10W-40 I would use it without hesitation. ryan2022, it would be an excellent oil for your 05 TJ.

A lot of people here including myself use Rotella 5W-40 on out gas cars. It's great stuff.

I forgott the why's? Great HTHS, extremly high end base stocks and high end additive packages that can go the distance! This applies to all of the ones I mentioned.

If you change oil at 3-5000 miles a TBN is not necessary, but if you plan to go 8-12,000 miles then a TBN may be helpful.

For your circumstances - not extending your OCI - there are no real advantages. Stick with PYB and be happy. If you want discussions about the different groups, addititization, etc just do a search. I started reading about oil on here and all over the internetz less than a year ago and, let me tell you, there's PLENTY more to read before asking a loaded question like this! : )

I haven't heard of Joe Gibbs oil, but the approach recommended is one I have heard for decades. While the new Vette engines come with synthetic (M1 as I recall) they also are very well machined. The approach this fellow recommended is really ultra-conservative in my view, with lots of upsides and little on the downside other than the frequent oil/filter changes. It assumes there is lots of ...

I don't think you'll find much love for any quick lube here, is there a local mechanic who you can trust for this and other things? Assuming it's the Ford modular v8, does it spec 5-30 or 5-20? If it were mine, in vegas, I'd probably be running a good 5-30 probably M1 or Pennzoil Platinum.

Like redline and motul 300v? Its not MoS2 anymore. Think of it as flies and
hornets competing for the a toad carcass. There is also detergent compond
competition at the same surfaces too. Thats why I'm no fan of high
detergency oil for high stress driving.

It's not the regular Valvoline Synpower 5W-30, it's the 5W-30 MST. Mobil 1 5W-30 isn't all that good of an oil, and it doesn't meet the spec for your car.

Im a firm believer in warming up any engine especially in the cold weather In the winter i give all my engines between 3 and 5 minutes depending on how cold others may disagree.

FWIW, the service manual for my Marauders says up to 1 quart per 900 miles
is considered acceptable. I have one (purchased new) that uses negligible
oil (a few ounces) in 5,000 miles and one (purchased used) that uses a bit
over a quart in 5,000 miles.

If you read the works of Dr. Haas ..where he quotes the research of the now famous Schneider (spl?). The curve flattens out with the oil temp. That was in a non-exchanged engine, so we didn't know if it was oil temp or what also occurred with oil temp being the co-product/byproduct. The closer you got to normalized oil temps ..the lower the wear.
