I am reading on another forum Ben's the electronics writer that they have secured additional funding. They have just released a new series of displays and products. I don't think their out of the game yet. Having never used anything but Garmin with great success sure its not top shelf I think it comes very close. They are also or have been lately very helpful in coming out with NMEA2000 devices, and additional firmware fixes after...

I am going to build my own, very basic, system. For my little 28' boat that will suffice very well. >snip< Bob PS: I enjoy a good challenge! Sounds like a good plan. quote: Originally posted by pdecat so how does a boat legally transit a NDZ if it has a treatment system? This is a basic question. If you have a MSD Type I only (my case) then you close off the discharge seacock. Then you render the seacock inoperable with chain and padlock or a plastic tie. If you have a door on the bathroom and the skipper and can lock it to prevent entry that works too. Those are not the only ways but they will pass for a...

After installing my Katadyn (okay, Bill's Katadyn), I'm going to say that Bob is completely correct in his component list and the prices. These devices do not need to cost thousands of dollars for a basic system. There's not that much to the basic units. And like Bruce, I'm anxious to hear where the affordable replacement parts can be found!

Okay, I bit and wasted my time reading the article. You could have just said that NDZ's did not make sense since the Cities can't follow the rules. Nothing in the article specifically about boating.

Bob, Sorry to be a cross-poster, but I have a comment to your question. Yes, you can certainly assemble your own watermaker. My cousin owns a residential water treatment company, but is also a boater. He has built a number of watermakers over the years for friends. This way you can customize exactly to your needs.

Are you taking part or just going? Boat parades are alot of fun. They are a awful lot of work too for something that only lasts a few hours.

I was heading upstream in a 21' cuddy and had a 28' wooden boat on the wall just ahead of me in the lock. I was standing on the bow holding the rope while my passenger used a boat hook to help keep the boat stable. As the lock begain to fill the alone captain could not control his boat and his bow swung away from the wall as the boat began to spin 360 degrees. I jumped into the cockpit and ...

Add roughly 3000 pounds for a trailer and you're now at 16,000 pounds. Well above all but the most beefiest vehicles. Can be done but requires the proper equipment AND experience.

I highly recommend the Spectra watermakers with the MPC digital control panel. They self clean themselves once a week so you do not have to pickle the unit between extended uses. Mine makes 8 gallons an hour. Draws 8 amps total at peak production runs off 12 vots. Bill

with AGM ventilation isnt' an issue... if you go for the cheaper lead acid as long as the space is not in living quarters and there is minimal ventilation, it's fine too. you could use the inverter bank for house duties. easier than adding a dedicated house bank since that would been replacing the charger to a 3 bank unit. when runnin on inverter, leave the Nervercold on DC power...
