Gas fule tank issue
Published (2009-11-13 12:53:00)
Phase sep is going to happen regardless. However in that you have stabilized the fuel and are running Valvtect to boot, you should be OK for a year. With a poly tank, I would think the moisture issue from condensation would be less than with a metal tank. I wouldn't worry about it. As a matter of fact, I would be reluctant to do anything as the fuel you are going to get from the road is not going to be stabilized.

Gasoline Smell

Easy answer especially given the failure point high and above the salon floor. The 3 existing sensors were placed as follows 1 near the salon AC filter, (the AC unit wasn't running at the time and is seperated by a full sized frig and wall. The other 2 are below the decks or floors one is under the salon floor under the tank in the rear and the last sensor is in the Engine room. So the failure point was above the salon floor and not...

Inverter and Charger

I like the Pro-mariner CHargers because if you find that 40 amps arent cutting it, you can buy a second charger and parallel them together. Not many others will do that.

my xnatrex freedom 30 had to be repaired twice under warranty... many posts on the Trawlers list about xantrex issues as you know although considering the number of inverter Xantrex sells, it may not be that abnormal. golf Cart batteries make great house and inverter batteries. they're typically 220 AH, each so two of them in series will still give you 220AH at 12v. if you have 4, that's 440AH which should be fine on a 40 footer. as...

Inverter and Charger

I have never had any real issues with Xantex inverters myself. And in fact just ordered an new one the other day. But I agree that you would be better off getting a compo inverter/charger. A 40-50 charger does not output enough amps fast enough to be worth whiled for recharging a large battery bank. Also for an inverter battery bank, you are better off sticking with the golf cart batteries than going with 8Ds. To do it right you have to look...

Winter on the Chesapeake
Published (2009-11-13 11:12:00)
quote: Originally posted by mixman ......... At least for Maryland, I think winter storage on the dry is a great marketing plan that yards have come up with to double their income. According to history books, the Chesapeake Bay has frozen solid enough to drive a car across the bay as far south as Annapolis. Not often, but a few times. I remember seeing ice on the water at one marina.

Wake Jumping Is Such Fun!

I was not knocking the manufacture either, although calling the boat a POS certainly says different. If you look closely, you can see the motor is trimmed up and thus creating a situation where the hull is barely touching the water. Now, if the motor is the rated size for that boat, then that's a problem, no? When I was young and dumb and had the desire for speed and excitement (or as I call it today, being a dick). I had a 18?...

Inverter and Charger
Published (2009-11-12 17:03:00)
You can get a 1800w straight inverter for about $410 if you shop around. You don't NEED an expensive inverter/charger since you already HAVE a charger. I have a NewMar 30 amp charger and a Xantrex 1800w inverter. The only issue is that mine is NOT automatic, though Xantrex does make an automatic inverter that will come on when the shore power is disconnected. Forget the Air Conditioning and hot water heater; while you can get an inverter...

Change the outlet first before you go crazy, I have one outside for my pond, thought I had a problem, was just the outlet.

You'd be hard pressed to do what you want for much under $1000. And you definitely can't if you want to run A/C. In any case an inverter/charger would be the way to go. How many and how old are the golf cart batteries you have now?

The 40 Mainship is a semi dicplacement hull. It can acheive much more than 8 knots with 380 hp. Its more comparable to your ACMY than say my full diplacement ex fishboat that has a big 100 hp. Like my ex wife. Dont be fooled by the picture.

I don't think UV will be any worse in the winter than it is in the summer... in fact, maybe even less of a concern because the sun is low in the sky and there are fewer hours of daylight in the winter. If you leave it in the water the most important issue IMO is making certain that the bilge is draining/pumping out OK. While we may not get a lot of snow we do get freezing rain which can play ...

Sorry you got burned, but if you knew he was bad, why did you use him? Every time I have used a boat transport, I make the deal where I pay the driver in Green, Folding, US Cash, upon successful delivery of the vessel.

some props will still turn while in neutral if the engine is running or in a current even with the engine off. They are saying to turn off the engine and put it in gear to stop the prop spinning. Unfortunately many transmissions on larger straight drive boats require hydraulic pressure to lock the coupling, that pressure is unavailable with the engine off so the prop can spin regardless of gear ...

First things first: make absolutely, positively certain that you do not have gasoline fumes and/or a leak. There is no room for error on this one. Either you get it right, or life will become more "complex". -- Now that you are willing to bet your ( and her ) life that you no longer have a leak, it does take a while. Wash everything. (Twice) Thoroughly air out the cabin, hold and all cabinets/...

Wolverine oil pan heaters. If you keep the engines warm the heat will travel as well. I use a 250 watt on each diesel, no smoke on startup. dry engine room.
