Citadels or Formula D. I personally dislike Citadels, but it does lend itself to this situation. As was said, though, Citadels followed by Dominion might be too many cards, so that might sway the vote in favor of Formula D.

Tribune: Primus Inter Pares comes to mind. The core gameplay might remind you a little of Kingsburg, but the nice thing about Tribune is that it has a great variety of gameplay all woven together. Only takes about an hour. From my personal comments: Each player vies for control of several factions in Ancient Rome (Praetorians, Gladiators, Vestal Virgins, Senators, etc). A handful of varied mechanisms provide access to faction cards. Once...

Sorry all, like Rick said, it's at Fantasy Flight for $5, not Funagain. Too much alliteration. Last edited on 2009-11-26 08:59:45 CST (Total Number of Edits: 1)

It's true...when a game you've never played but have read about and are intrigued by gets in your head, for whatever reason, it's tough to dismiss it without first playing it. Otherwise you'll end up breaking down and buying it, often to your regret.

2 n00bs to a table with 2 groups of pros sounds like a winning setup, but... RoboRally can take awhile, but will support up to 8. Carcassonne and The Settlers of Catan have both been modded by folks to support upwards of their original limit of 6, and the bits to do so are readily available [ www.meeplepeople.com or www.boardgamebits.com ]. Drakon - 3rd Edition is fantastic with 6 and could easily be modded [just throw in another figure per...

For a group of 9 Ricochet Robots or Take it Easy! or a varient thereof are about the only things I can recommend. Werewolf ? Splitting up would outrank everything except RR for me, and RR is hated by some. (Fools!)

I think Pandemic is a good choice. Mr. Jack seems to be hit or miss with couples. I would read more about it (or try it) with that in mind. Also take a look at Taluva , a great game that, for 2, plays in about 20 minutes. We like to play it twice in a row. And if you like Carcassonne, check out Arkadia as well. I also think Elasund: The First City of Catan is a great choice (plays in about 45 minutes with 2, simple rules but a lot to think...

Ubongo has been a big hit in my house with my 5 and 8 year olds. The game is fun for adults and scales well for little kids due to the 3 piece puzzles (kids do 3, adults do 4, and you can give additional help by letting kids pick all their pieces BEFORE the timer starts). It's also a very easy game to "throw", because you can just go slower...

Dominion seems like an obvious answer as far as new stuff goes. Small World too.

The Dungeoneer sets have solo rules. Basically it's the "boon" and "item" cards for you and the "monster" and "bane" cards against you. Dungeoneer: Den of the Wererats for example. Yes it is a multi-player game with a solo variant, but there's no robot player. In the multi-player game it's your opponents who choose what bad cards to throw at you. In the solo game, the bad cards are just ...

Well when it comes to dexterity and hamster related Hamsterrolle always comes to mind. If that is too expensive or maybe not your thing, PitchCar Mini should be great for a twelve year old. My cousins (ages 8 - 16) absolutely love the game as do I (age 19).

If you want something $20 including shipping, you're down to $10 games for the most part. If you don't count shipping you could get Vikings which is a small step up from Carcassonne in complexity. It's $21 from boardsandbits and someone's selling it "like new" for $17 in the marketplace.

I have not played AGoT LCG, as I felt I was too far behind on that story curve as it were. I am not a huge Cthulhu fan. I hate Arkham Horror. So I was not a natural candidate for CoC LCG. The play was different enough to warrant my getting into it. I think it is starting to get pretty darn good, as the "Dreamer" and Day/Night cards increase in the current Asylum Pack Cycle. My main opponent, (my...

I would do Citadels first. Maybe one or two games and then go to Dominion. A few games of that. Do you have Intrigue ? That will make Dominion up to a 6 player game.

Maybe Kingsburg ? It's categorized as Medieval, but perhaps it will interest you. Big board, lots of colorful dice to roll, suggested 10 and up, weight under 3.

I would recommend just splitting into two groups. Play two "lighter" games and split the groups up. I would also say make sure to get a game that's under 2 hours (some peoples attention span just doesn't last)

Since you didn't specify price or box size constraints, Planet Steam might fit the bill.

It doesn't have trading, but Ticket to Ride is worth taking a look at. I should add that I really love Settlers. It's one of my '10'-rated games.

Ticket 2 Ride is easy to pick up. You should probably start with that for your group.

Have you looked in to The Pillars of the Earth ? It still has some luck, since the workers are drawn one-at-a-time out of a bag, but there are lots more choices there than there are in Stone Age, as well as the potential for different kinds of strategies.
