So, despite the fact that the film industry went back to widescreen in the '50s, remember that widescreen actually started in the '20s and went away during the Great Depression, and did not limit director's right to choose their own format during all of the years of 4:3 televisions, now we should resort to censorship to satisfy a few people who can't deal with not having every pixel on their display lit up? Yeah, that makes...

I'm with the OP. I don't think we should have to see every thing that was filmed. We should have peoples heads cut in half, phantom noses sticking out of the sides and voices coming out of people that aren't even on the screen. I also don't see the point of offering 5.1 sound. WE ONLY HAVE TWO EARS PEOPLE!!! If the Flying Spaghetti Monster intended us to make use of more than two sound sources, He would have given us eyes,...

I personaly have no need with a full screen BD, I want to watch my movies in OAR and nothing else.
I suppose if they want to release a second version like they did with DVD with full screen I don't truly don't mind, I sure know I wont be buying any of them. But the chances of that are a bit slim I would think. Chaging aspect ratio of a movie to fill in the screen cost more to a studio then ...

I think the best way to do it is to simply keep doing software as they have been, but make demo displays more prominent. At my local Best Buy, everything is just great, except that in order to see the Blu-ray demo, you have to go down the special aisle for Blu-ray. That screen should on an endcap or something, and the display should do a better job of pointing out exactly what Blu-ray is and ...

There is a drawback to this method. If you use bitstream you will not hear the disc menu sounds or the secondary track for Bonus View Picture-in-Picture features. The menu sounds are no big deal, but you may like Bonus View. ...

I recently jumped into the more serious calibration fray after I downloaded the free ITU-R BT.709 AVCHD from AVSformus.com, created by alluringreality and hwjohn. It really helped with black and white levels and sharpness. My Sony XBR4 has never looked better. Unfortunately, I don't have any filters, so I wasn't able to do much with the colors.
A few quick questions for Stacey:
1) Can I ...
