The United States also has a very challenging topography/geography that other westernized/advanced countries do not. Just in terms of land mass alone, we're up there — number three in the world, in fact: we're just behind Canada, and a fair amount behind Russia. This is part of the reason why we might be behind some countries like Japan and other geographically miniature countries when it comes to a fast internet infrastructure.

Great information by BH.. like this one Quote: CEA: 2.7 million stand-alone Blu-ray players were sold in the U.S. last year. 3.7 have been sold so far this year, and 40-50% of all sales for the year happen in the 4th quarter, so CEA believes we could easily see the final total of BD stand-alone players sold in 2009 hit 6 or 7 million units. The number could go as ...

2001 was in the 60s, and the short story it was based on was in the 40s. 2010 was written in the 80s. But yes...I agree, infrastructure in the US is not going to be able to handle blu-ray quality digital distribution for quite some time.

I suppose if they want to release a second version like they did with DVD with full screen I don't truly don't mind, I sure know I wont be buying any of them. But the chances of that are a bit slim I would think. Chaging aspect ratio of a movie to fill in the screen cost more to a studio then ...
