Yes, he's certainly "real" now. I'm glad the DP call in the tenth didn't matter in the end...

It'll be nice for DeMacio I'm sure to not have the owner overrule the scouting director. DeMacio is fairly maligned in these parts, but it's worth noting that he did snag Bedard out of the sixth round and many felt that Markakis was a reach at #7 in 2003.

So his numbers get worse and the plan is to promote him? I hate to call anyone a bust (I still believe in you, il fornaio! ), but Rowell is in the bust category for me. It's not like the guy drafted after him ever amounted to much anyway.

This is the best part of the story IMO: "We all have tremendous jobs and thousands of people are trying to get these jobs and so when you keep a job you are particularly fond of, it's a good feeling," said Crowley, who is entering his 24th season as a big league hitting coach and 12th straight with the Orioles. "I'm pleased as heck, especially to have the same manager back." Led by Brian ...

I think the only reason that I could get behind tossing him out is the "fresh start" idea. Of course, how many fresh starts have the Orioles had over the last dozen or so years?

I'm watching TBS' postgame show now just to see if Ripken and Wells do a trip down memory lane - "13 years ago tonight, there was another playoff game in the Bronx..."

It's even more amazing when you consider that the Twins did it with Justin Morneau not available after 9/12 due to the stress fracture in his back. The rest of the team could have packed it in at that time as the Twins were 70-72, but they went 16-4 over the last 20 games to force the one-game playoff. JR
