11 September. To the Caribbean. A quick dawn run back to Braulio Carrillo, notched up just single new species for the trip - an Olive-sided Flycatcher - but plenty of birds as on the day previous, tanagers galore, a Stripe-throated Hermit , a quick peep back at the Snowcaps , but that was that, I had ideas to get moving. To keep alive any faint hope of reaching 400 species, or better still the 403 target, pretty drastic action was in order -...

The next day we again headed out with the Belgians, but this time were dropped off at the bottom of the Anaso track which climbs steeply into even higher elevation forest for c6km before descending through more forest to who knows where. The track used to be drivable in a 4x4 but is far from it now, and a landslide c1km from the bottom has left a dramatic 1m wide section to cross, which could easily soon give way leaving a steep-sided chasm to...

The lodge has the little elevated tables for putting out fruit for the birds, and kept them stocked with bananas, but no birds came to them. Them manager said the birds just haven't learned to use them. It was neat to see a Tayra using the feeders, though. Attached is a photo. When I have seen them before, it has always been a glipse from a distance. The hummingbird feeders were very well attended, allowing me to provide Birdforum with...

Vast rainforests on the Osa Peninsula, haunting cloud forests in the heights of the Cordilleras, steamy lowland forests in the Caribbean slope, this excellent trip notched up an amazing variety of species, including most of the regional endemics, along with 26 species of hummingbird, eight species of trogon and no less than 27 tanagers. With all four monkeys, plus Northern Tamandua , Tayra and...

Hi All,
I've booked a two-week holiday to Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. My other half's interest is in the gorillas but for me I'm trying to sus out what the birding is like at particular locations - given that this isn't a birding trip per se!
The route goes Kigali-Ruhengeri-Bunyoni-Ngamba Island/Entebbe-Jinja-...

For next time:
Otters on Ardnamurchan: the hottest spots I know of are the adjacent bays to the Glenborrodale wildlife centre, that's the centre bay itself, Port na Croisg and the bay with the old (DEFUNCT: don't disturb the private owners!) Cala Darach B&B in the corner: also the seafront by Resipole Farm Caravan site between Salen and Strontian; the sandy harbour at Strontian, and the head...

So, after several weeks batting emails to and fro, an itinerary was decided
on. The first half was straightforward, as I've not birded cerrado or chaco
before and the key birds were pretty predictable. The second leg was built
around my target list - most people would spend significantly more time in
Atlantic forest where species such as Helmetted Woodpecker amongst others
are possible. My ...

Northern Peru October & November 2009
We're just back from a lovely trip to Peru, in three phases: Three days in Lima, guided by Mario Cabrejos [casal@infotex.com.pe]; four days in the Abra Patricia area, guided by Julio Tellos, arranged through Gunnar Engblom's Kolibri Expeditions; and five days with a group of orchid enthusiasts attending ...

Hey Chris
Great read, sounded a brilliant laugh above all else - and backed up with some excellent photos. One I noticed, the BB Albatross photo appears not to be one...looks more like a Shy with that bill alone
