New AVG 9 version
Published (2009-11-06 12:42:00)
I downloaded AVG9 using Mozilla after my problem with Internet Explorer. I then found that many web pages just would not load and that included Bird Forums and other bird sites. I was waiting so long watching an empty screen that I finally ran out of patience and had no choice but to uncheck LinkScanner on AVG9. Once I did that then things were back to normal. My ISP is Virgin and I wonder whether anybody else has had this problem. Roger

Bird Journal V1.1
Published (2009-11-07 21:23:00)
This is a great product...I just wrote a bit about under entitled Imaging data software... But Bluebird is perfect..easy to use...can include photos, can tailor the data to fit what I want and not something that I will not care to collect data on. Some birders like myself, like to keep data but not all that some of these programs have available...This program allows me to put in fields (text or checklist etc) of just the data...

If that doesn't work closing your browser and restarts usually does the trick. D

New AVG 9 version
Published (2009-11-03 17:02:00)
Interesting problem, as I'm also running XP on a 4 year old desktop with 2Gigs of memory. Microsoft Security Essentials installed smoothly, into an AVG 8.5 protected system and did not hiccup when AVG 9 replaced 8.5. Speed is unchanged, but my applications are very undemanding, just Email, surfing and CD's, so maybe I cannot tell the difference.

New AVG 9 version

Hi Alan, no, I didn't bother as I had already upgraded to AVG 9 when I saw MSE mentioned here. I've read on a few computer forums that there can be problems with MSE hogging all system resources - remember too that I've only half a gig of memory so I shouldn't be surprised!!! cheers Gordon

Freeform Quiz Software?
Hi all,
I was wondering, has anyone ever heard of a program that would allow you to make your own 'fill in the blank' quizzes with sounds you've recorded yourself? I've certainly seen plenty of birding software on the market that allows one to take all sorts of bird sound quizzes, but I was hoping someone out ...

hi There
I see that AVG has a new updated 'free' version from 8.5 to 9.0 now.
I have tired to upgrade AVG as per instruction, but now it is asking me to uninstall my Comodo Firewall - so the new updated AVG 9.0 will be accepted as a file on my PC
Can I ask ... if I uninstall my Comodo Firewall does that put my PC at risk in any way at all? Am I safe while the new AVG sofware is loaded....

You can try this. It worked for me and evenutally I actually bought it as it was a one time purchase and not a yearly subscription. I was able to recover them with the free demo years ago. Not sure if it still works that way but no harm in trying. Scroll down on the page for free demo.

You don't say what web browser you are using but if it is Internet Explorer, if you go to Tools then Internet Options then click on the Advanced Tab there is a list of ticky boxes in the Multimedia section there is one called "Show Pictures", make sure it is ticked, even if it is ticked try unticking it, Applying that change and the go back and retick it.
If this doesn't work or you are using...

If you right mouse on the shortcuts in the start menu and go to Properties,
one of the options makes the program start maximised.

Hello Andy - I was about to start a thread to ask if anyone had experience
of this software package and to solicit their opinions. You've had 231
views and no responses, which I find puzzling. Anyway, I've just downloaded
the trial version, so here goes. Is the full version worth the £29? All the
best. Mike

Some handheld devices use desktop diaries and sync with them. They are sometimes a free download, the Palm desktop is one that comes to mind there will be others, it can be used without the handheld device. Also try looking into iCal this works with Outlook and there is always Google apps these are very much underrated, a google calender will be accessible from anywhere in the world, not just ...
