i have seen some purple sands with yellow flags and double red colour rings at Embo highland,can anyone help with info on where these birds may have been ringed? thanks.

I don't know about those specific traps, but on the Isle of May I have used spring traps to catch passerines in open country that would not be easily caught in a net (Wheatears, pipits, Bluethroat). It was a lot of effort to catch a very few birds, but a chance to catch species not easily caught otherwise. The ones I have used were quite small and would certainly not have been suitable for gulls and corvids. The ones you mention may be...

Ringing near Gifford 09/10 winter Saturday 10th October, ringing at Site 2. This was really an exploratory session while we did some trimming.
