Meopta Meostar 8x32 review

Back to the thread... The Meopta 8x32's are really nice. $799 for 8x and 10x is really a deal and I believe the USA warrantee is transferable. And another example of a binocular with no competition at it's price. Cheers

Very nice review, including some rather unusual binoculars, thank you. It looks like we are now getting with the next wave from China, and to paraphrase, "95% the performance of a Zen-Ray for half the cost"!. http://www.adorama.com/PRO842.html Looking forward to the second half of the story. How to best fix a too loose hinge?
Published (2009-12-13 03:46:00)
I custom made a washer from a piece of rubber, put it on the tripod adapter cover screw (by the way, what a weird place to put the serial number!) and tightened it as much as I dared (using a coin, not a screwdriver because it ruins the slot). Works fine. Now it is movable but with a desirable resistance. Great! :) I probably have to tighten the screw a little now and then... Thanks again A even happier Oskar

I sold my Vortex 8x42 as well. I had the eye cup repaired, it was about a
day in the shop. My Pentax is still there, a month later.

Good review! But don't forget that you now have a choice and can also get a Nikon 8 x 32 Premier (LX L) in the same price range as the Meostar. Nikon's price is $899.00 at Eagle Optics and Cameraland NY. Taken along with Meopta's $800.00 price one now has a small selection of binoculars that are virtually as good as the Alphas at savings of about $500.00.

With light transmission through high end binoculars now above 90 %, there is not much room for increases in brightness. However, there is still plenty left to do to improve image sharpness across the entire field, cut CA further and perhaps widen the field of view without cutting eye relief.
Tools to achieve that might include cast aspheric lenses ( to keep costs out of the stratosphere) as ...

I reviewed the one I have in my Budget Bins thread. It's very sharp, bright, wide FOV with excellent eye relief. Certainly in the $300+ roof range in optical quality. And ...

Welcome, unpronounceable but real birder,
According to almost everybody who has looked through them, the Zen-Ray 8x43 ED2 slays all within a factor of two of its price, being less than $500 if you grab the introductory offer, still easily within your budget even if you don't. They are new, and therefore with no reputation for longevity yet, but of all the reports on them I've seen, not a single ...

Oskar,
Your Swift 828 has standard Tripod Adaptor capability built into it I believe. If it is at the front end of the hinge as in the illustration below, you might be able to use this Vortex Binoc-loc on it to keep your IPD constant. Just remove the blind cap and replace it with this lock. I have one and it works nicely on my 9 x 36 Vortex. You will always be able to expand your IPD with ...

Steve,
Thank you for sharing further comments on this fine selection of lower powered bins. I have to say that I understand the fascination with this magnification range. The excellent depth of field, the brightness of the image, the easy to use 5 mm exit pupil all combine to create enjoyable images.
My thoughts on the Bushnell Excursion EX tend to mirror yours. I found the image ...
