How high is your tank? I have mine at about 6 feet and the flow does seem a bit sluggish. Have you enlarged the hole in the brass tube connected to the control knob?

steam explosions to atomize wvo

quote: Wonder how much water it uses per hour to create the atomizing steam? I don’t think it would take much at all. Last year I had got some wet oil in my heater and it burned very poorly, had to clean the tank out. But this steam thing would be different I think. After about two years burning pot heaters I am convinced the only way to get a nice CLEAN burn is to atomize the oil. After winter I will experiment with some steam, but as for...

Thanks DCS. Yeah.....you're probably right. I think i just got a little too cocky (kinda like Tom Hanks on Cast Away when he made the fire for the first time!!!) lol. Your #'s on Cfm/btu/gpm fuel seem logical. The math for my system (hottub): 200 gal water heated from 50F to 100F in 3hrs with approx 10% (constant) effeciency at the fire pit with 200-300k btu/hr @ aprox 4 gal/hr. (this is way faster then wood!!!! I'll have to...

That Video could have been 2 minutes shorter if the guy just got on with what the information he was trying to put forward rather than punctuate every second word with "Errrrr". I can't imagine having something that looked like that in my home though. I'm sure the guy works in a plumbing supply place with all the brass fittings he has on everything. If not, the plumbing place had a real good Year!

Pot burner coking up quickly on...
Published (2009-12-15 15:17:00)
Found the problem, there was a missing dampner/draft control plate that is mounted behind the door - it came with the stove, but I didn't know where to install - figured it out, now running on B80 K20 mix and it's burning a nice blue flame without soot. Awesome - hopefully I will be able to run B100 after some slight mod's. I might post some pic's of this nice little stove - picked it up on E-bay for $225 shipped to my door.

Just a guess ,but with the eye disconected and the cover off that might cause it not to fire up.

This is the third year for my heater . I found having the fuel tank as high as possible and also mixing your waste oil with 50% diesel or kerosene will help . I set the burner at 9 for start up and turn it down to 7 after it get to op temp. I have made some changes to the carb. to get better flow of fuel.

I'm not familiar with the Deville, but I will tell you how I modified my Sears unit to reduce similar coking: Using a straight punch that just fit the air holes in the burner liner, I angled all of them in one direction to make the incoming air swirl in one direction (rather like a Turk burner). The flame is now like a tornado, burning hot in the middle of the burner liner space. I suspected that...

I hope you all had a good holiday. I thought of you Espana when I was swimming in the freezing water in Donegal on Easter Sunday. When I got home the dosing pump had arrived and I got to work. I got it installed and running today. The pump is a variable peristaltic dosing pump. You have probably all seen them before, they are used a lot in hospitals to pump blood and saline solutions. ...

I hadn't heard of it but I came up with a virtually identical design myself. I use a vaccumm cleaner as the air source and feed the oil in from the blower end of the tube so the oil gets pre-heated but other than that we are obviously on the exact same page. I can only say though that a small blower as you describe is NOT going to give you 1M BTU. That requires burning about 30L of WVO an hour ...

you want to pre-heat VO using this exchanger? but not for combustion in the heater? use steel coil then instead of copper (NAPA), OR circulate WATER through the exchanger, or coolant, use the heat from that fluid to heat VO, or your house, or whatever - best to keep VO coolish until it's ready to be burned - 2¢ from veggie vet (house and car) rOLf 2 yrs and 100k mi on WVO - '93 VW EuroVan 2-...

I went ahead and picked up one of these heater for the work shop. It has a Toby carberator and I am hoping to be able to get it to run B100. Was looking for some input - will report back when it's up and running. They are several available on E-bay for approx $225 (shipping included) right now from a guy down in North Carolina.

Hi Heatbeater Is there no way you could pump all the fuel thro some sort of filter back into the tank to try and clear up the tank at all-maybe an old pair of denims with the legs tied off(no holes though)-or some dense cotton spread across a metal trash can, feeding back into tank.If you could recirculate this for a while you should be able to clean up your whole tank, and your golden rod will ...
