As far as I know there will be 16 pin looks like a serial port under the steering and a 20 pin port under the hood/bonnet which is under a black screw on cap approx 75mm dia.

HPFP stands for High Pressure Fuel Pump. It is a known issue on the E36 and E46. I believe they extended the warranty on it just because of all the issue with the pump.

I have pretty much searched many vehicles and have narrowed my choice down to either a 335i Coupe with xdrive or a 335i convertible. My wife already drives another convertible and I do love them. However, with the new car being my primary vehicle, I am concerned about handling in the snow. I have no qualms about snow with the xdrive system, but worry about handling of the convertible. Do any of you have snow experience with the 335i...

I agree with the hose price way over the top, i cant see a hose replacement costing that much, theres a foreign auto shop that claims to work on BMW"s near by. Might just take it there for the hose, as for the tranny i really hope it was just a glitch or strange kick of some sort. so far its happened 2 times in a week, the light coming on once. However i cannot get it to happen again. Thanks everyone for taking time to help me. I...

The service engine light normally means you are do for service. Sounds like you need an oil change.

It sounds like an ignition issue. How old are your spark plugs? If they are old, it may be time to replace them. Otherwise, then next thing I would look at are the coil packs. More then likely they are on there way out.

I would think the misfiring would continue after the 4K mark. If it is not a coil, the only other thing I would think it could be is the HPFP.

There should be a button to turn the traction control. If you look in the manual, it will tell you which button it is. Also, keep in mind that when you turn the car off, then back on, the traction control turns itself back on my default.

RealOEM.com * BMW E46 318i Rep.kit f safety battery terminal clamp
The positive battery cable has a pyro charge just like the airbag. When an airbag deploys, the cable is cut to shut off the car, unlock the doors and such.
Definitely sounds like that could be it in your case too; have a look at it.
ps. The bad part is, the whole cable has to be replaced and it's expensive.

are there any steering problems with it? sounds odd, but i had a trip-tronic citroen a few years back and the gearbox oil was used to drive the power steering. the gearbox had a problem and it effected the steering long before it would have become evident in the gear change. not sure if bmw use the same type of system but i know other car manufacturers do

2001 325xi wagon question Hey Guy's, Newbie here. I just bought this vehicle. It has 148,000 miles on it. It has been meticulously dealer maintained. My question is there anything I should be concerned about wearing out. I have an option to pick up an engine, transmission, partial electrical extended warranty for 2k coverage is 5yr/50,000 miles. I am wondering if this is ...
