There is a big difference between ultra suade and Alcantara. One is available at Jo Ann's frabices, and is not automotive grade, or UV resistant, the other is available only from, Gulf Fabric http://www.gulffabrics.com/ and is pretty expensive, is UV resistant, and feels better than anything else.

Check easy stuff first. Clutch travel, which you can check with the gas on a little when the clutch is pressed in, and then when your just sitting there should be a small bit of travel of play so you know the clutch is fully engaged. CDV should be removed if not already. Though you will have to bleed the clutch line afterwards if you remove it. Does everything shift OK with the engine off? Otherwise unless something is broken worn shifter...

Yeah, but as I recall ECIS is CARB certified, so you must've gotten the sticker for it. Could technically say that the premium is for CARB certification.

Well I know how to do it now, its just the last time I did it was the first time I've ever checked the oil on any vehicle so its entirely possible that I didn't read it right. And thank you for the step by step. I followed the steps but it didn't work. The check engine light just stared at me. Since I live in Germany, the tool would probably get here way after my appointment with the mechanic so I guess I'm SOL until then....

JW why are you looking for an intake? If you're looking for the best for the money. I would just debaffle the stock set up and get a euro snorkel if you want to spend money. I used to have an CAI (for the sound) and debaffled sounds just as good and is a better intake setup. If you want to drop a couple hundred bucks get a tune. BTW you will not really feel a difference with any of these mods.

It could be a million things but I vote for the Italian tune up before the smog test. It made my S4 go from 174ppm HC at idle down to 9ppm. I spent a ton of time (and money) chasing things around trying to figure out the problem. Heating the car up well and good, plus revving it out is way too easy to do.

1. Yes, unbolting the exhaust and moving the intake cam was the correct thing to do. Now you just have to retime it properly prior to reassembly. I suspect it was timed wrong before. You'll need to remove the secondary timing gears, and check the alignment of the primary. Basically, follow the cam timing instructions on Pelican or Dr Vanos sites as if you have removed all the cam gears....
