Thanks for updating us. Watched it, it was cool. But van Hooydonk uttered what is probably one of the greatest understatements ever: "5 series customers ... drive a little bit faster every now and then" a little bit faster ? and just every now and then ? lol, comeon .

Dinana are conservative and expensive. But also work very well with BMWs. I don't know about a chip. I want to say Conformi or something are pretty good. (Not even close other than it starts with a C) Exhaust. I don't know about whole systems, but as cat back systems go Essman is good. There are a lot of other good systems on the market as well. As for intake I think it's a waste of money. Just debafle the airbox, drop in a...

BMW's international website has now put up a site dedicated to the new 5 series with additional image and videos, as well as engine and design details. There is no hard data on perfomance figures yet, but that should appear once we see road tests: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...oom/index.html

No offense, but I think you are approaching this from the wrong direction. You should focus on the new car not the old car. Many things will change on newer cars, esp. between an e36 and the 2 generation newer cars you are considering. If you get too fixated on what your old car did and what this car doesn't do/have, you will not enjoy things the way you should.
I moved from an e36 to an e90 ...

Honestly, if reliability is at the top of your list, a BMW (especially a used one) is probably not for you. You can find a Honda or Subaru that will be wayyy more reliable and offer a similarly pleasurable (albeit very different) driving experience. They wont drive like a BMW, but they'll drive like something that is different but almost as good.

WOW...280k is a TON of miles regardless of what kind of car it is. I'd steer away from ANYTHING with that kind of mileage.

Kudos to the blinding fast reaction! Do you think the X-Drive has anything to do with the braking behavior or do you think it's just the braking system?

The move from a 528e to an e39 528i leaves an impression of a robust boat like like vehicle. They just aren't as reliable anymore, not that 3 series are, or the whole BMW brand in itself. The 3 series is also much more practical considering it also has a 4 door sedan, for cheaper than a 5 series.
