Tire Question

Yes, ET is the offset. You will be just fine with those wheels. Make sure to get the rings however. 225/55-16 is what I ran on my E31 as well many moons ago when I had 16s.

Anything smaller than factory rim size should interfere with the caliper. Im with 8s. Must be a reason why you never see smaller wheels on. Go measure yours

Headlight Problems

Mine did the same thing after changing to HID lights. Insulation on the wiring harness was bad. Got one from Charlie. He had to get it from germany but he got it pretty fast.

Really? That's a miracle that your harness wiring insulation is fine. I would still suspect the harness after confirming your relay is functioning properly. Cheers

blue Bosch and Makita have worked best for me sofar. Things such as wrenches I have mostly gone with the cheaper stuff as I don`t need heavy duty, LUX I guess.

Borrow a relay from somewhere else to test if the original is bad, If not, I would start back tracking that harness repair job to eliminate it as well.

I have an 840. It takes Pentosin CHF 11S. Not sure about yours.
What does the canister say? Since yours is older, it might be the CHF 7.
Does your car have the EDC Electronic Suspension? I beleive this runs off the same resevoir, and may be in fact different, from what a NON EDC car might be.
Lemme know what you find. Its kinda late now, but others will chime in early tomorrow.

did you do the pitman as well? Do you think it was the drag link or the idler that was causing you the problems? I have a new idler waiting to be fitted and now my car's in lots of bits I'll put it on. Wasn't planning on bothering with the drag link though...they look pricey...
Then all I need is Bill's CSi steering box and I'll have a go-kart!

I was recently wondering this too.
I picked up a set of E39 5series (7x16 ET:20) rims for my car, and fitted them with some Michelin Alpin (225/55R16) tires. I think really anything 16" (to clear the brakes) and lower offsets (20 or less) should work.

Check the doughnut shaped item on one of your spark plug boots..
Without it, it's going to stall. You must have it attached to the wrong lead or something.

The 3/4 cut rear is a hot set up with H&R fronts, If your not getting outer tire ware, Why install the plates? From what i've seen, They benefit the stock suspension only.

Um. Im thinking steering box might be shot/worn and when it gets to a certain point it looses pressure, until it can be built back up. Sounds wierd, but sounds logical.
Good luck.

Anything will fit if you work at it hard enough. IMO this set is just wrong for your car. ET for ours is much lower: 5-15mm F, and 15- 25mm R (estimated because somebody will say different)

There is not an official group. But there are several people here in Austin with 8s. Also we have had a couple of statewide meets here in Austin. So where are you in Austin?

I just switched to a non-airbag Mtech-II wheel. You have to do a resistor mod to trick the system into thing it's still there. Otherwise it's really straightforward. You'll like smaller and fatter.

Fake!
I would of love to see the actual speed of the car moving in relation to the engine RPM's. Was interesting though.

Jenya, with those same width rims on one of the 840s there were 255/50/16 (Michelin Pilots) all around with no clearance issues. I'd never go to an aspect ratio of 60. With the 255s there was still about 3/8" clearance to the spring perch in front, and all kinds of room in the rear.
