I commute 42 miles round trip everyday. I live in Orange County and have a pretty safe route. I feel sorry for LA people, the streets are old and the people are inpatient.

curious kid, thanks for pointing to this thread. funny, I live directly behind Charlie's house, on Beckett, just past Apperson school. hope you don't mind but have a few questions. Who is Charlie Marko? What is the connection to the Hidden Spring cafe? sorry got lost in traslation. What kind of pace? Is there a fast group or is this just a cruising speed ride? What time is the group or groups expected back? Thanks.

I'm in San Diego until about next May. Currently riding my big meaty WTB's on my Prophet, well, because they are a great Northwest tire. A little too much beef for here.
What can you all recommend for cross country type riding at say Mission Trails, Rancho Penasquites (sp?)...

OCW's service really sucks but they have some great products. They're not very good at responding to emails from customers. My GF ordered me a custom jersey a couple months before last Xmas....it didn't arrive until March. Maybe a group buy would be much better since they wouldn't have to deal with any special embroidery.
FWIW, my wool jersey is absolutely my favorite. If I...

No offense intended, nor do I intend in to minimize the achievement in any way, but the pics make the route look harder than the numbers you cited. 40+ miles with 5000 feet of climbing (that's net, not gross, right?) works out to roughly a 2.5% slope, on the average.
With my very limited experience, I would like to ask, at what point in your riding did you first attempt this ...

I'm registered for the metric, also my first. I began training earlier this month, then got sick and was off the bike for almost 2 weeks. This week, I finally decided to go for it.
I'm planning to ride my Roubaix, a black bike with bullhorn-type bars and red bar tape, white/silver helmet. Depending on the weather, I'm planning to wear my 50+ forum jersey and vest.

Now, something unbelievable happened as we returned to the cars. Deer usually run away from me. But, this was not the case.
The Mayor is so famous, that even the deer approached him.
Pick me, pick ME, PICK ME!

Holy cow, I rode right by that on my commute this morning about 30 minutes after it happened. The scene looked terrible, the bike was completely destroyed. I had no idea it was this bad.
