The second image is of a platform pedal, designed for use with toe clips. Note: Cycling shoes can be used with toe clips. Have you checked out the huge selection of available styles of pedals at several online sites?

I came across an article in todays New York Daily News about Greg LeMond and his legal battle with Trek: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/mo...inst_trek.html Quote: "Greg LeMond's lawsuit against Trek is about more than broken promises - it's about Lance, too..." Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/mo...#ixzz0WJhVO7Ey It's a rather lengthy article, so I'm not going to quote it all here.

26x30/32 tires?

Not really surprising, since Cheng Shin makes lots and lots of "branded" tires. Judging by this page: http://velospace.org/node/5017 , I'd say that the rims are conventional 559mm BSD "mountain bike" size.

Probably not the absolute ******** thing.
People have been doing ***** things on their bikes for over a century now.
For example, someone might have improperly tightened a quill stem bolt, then have gotten their front wheel caught in the tracks just as the tram was coming.
That would be awful, and embarrassing, if lots of bystanders were around.

So are you asking for approval? Or just opinions?
I personally prefer an older used bike over a new cheap bike. I've been riding my $10 '75 peugeot for 6 months now and haven't had any problems.
I prefer older steel bikes over new cheap bikes. That's just me though. Some people just want something brand new. i thinkit's kind of cool to have something "...

Most bike shops won't do trade ins - at least they don't around here. Post nice clean pics and list the details on the bike for the best response. You'd be surprized at how often people forget something as simple as the size of the bike. If your bike is newish, then expect to list it for about 50% of new. When I've sold bikes, it usually take a good number of emails from ...

Heels down is a bad idea. Whoever told you that is an idiot, or trying to intentionally deceive you.
Your toe shouldn't be pointed either. It should be slightly angled down, like your foot naturally hangs if you're dangling your feet off of something, and your ankle-to-foot angle shouldn't change much in your pedaling rotation.

Finding truth about equipment needs the super human ability to think critically, process information correctly, and the rarest skill of all, seeing through BS and hype. Unfortunately most things cycling are hype, or at the very least, over blown as too their effect on performance.
Foot retention has its uses. Is it a singular item that can vastly improve ones performance? ...

Hey I appreciate the responses! The info is useful and saves me from finding this out after I buy a new bike. I have been to a few LBS already. One told me to look on the Internet for what I like then come back and they could order it. They are a dealer for Schwinn and Giant. Another shop showed me a Specialize Sirrus for $660. That seemed to be a nice bike, but had no fenders ...

26" and 700c would basically make two bikes from one frame.
Riding light and want a bit of speed- then 700C
Want to carry a load- go on rough trails or don't need speed- then 26"
AND-- If you are a Clydesdale- then you may want/need a stronger wheel. A 26" wheel is more rugged and durable than most 700C's. And most People that would ride a BIG frame bike will be ...
