Feeling better now? The LBS owner should want to know of your recent interaction with his employee. I don't replace my chains until they show .1 using the Park Chain Measure tool. I also purchase KMC chains at a lot less than Ultegra chains.

traditional geometry v. Roubaix
Published (2009-11-18 12:34:00)
What is most important is you get a bike that works for your fit and type of riding style. I see too many riders on bikes with short headtubes with a mess of spacers under a very upright stem. That frame was not designed to handle well setup like that. It would be much better to ride a different bike, one with a longer HT and the geometry to accommodate that position. I have a Roubaix, a Parlee Z4 and a IF Ti road bike and they all are...

WOW, you went from the LBS moron, to the LBS Salesman. My cassette is on the third chain. The LBS owner needs to know your experience. He probably hired an out of work GM service manager.

So I am not convinced Shimano is the right answer on replacement chains. +1 on Nashbar chains. They also seem to run quieter.

Weak Link, I don't mean to hijack your thread which I have found interesting. I will add a bit about my LBS. In 6 years I have yet to see the owner smile. His demeanor is very sour his answers to questions are clipped and uninformative. In the last month I have had three friends complain to me about this attitude at the LBS. Since this is the owner's attitude it quickly becomes standard fare from all of the employees as well. Now, I...

Yes, Post this same request on the C&V forum. That's where many 27 inch experts are. If you travel to Raleigh, try calling all three of the All Star Bike shops (2 in Raleigh one in Cary) to see what they have in the way of used forks. They used to sell for around $5-$10. Hope this works for you.

First, I wouldn't worry about what others thought was uncool. When you say your are "generally comfortable..." on your Bianchi, does this mean there are some areas in which comfort is missing? There is no question in my mind that the longer head tube does make reach a bit easier if flexibility is starting to become an issue. However, while approaching the sixty year mark, I ...

Most double 9sp MTB cranks can be had with gearing of around 24/36 (I'm using a Truvativ Stylo 2.2 like this, but on an MTB) For higher gearing, cyclocross cranks run around 36/46. This leaves your 30 somewhere in the middle and I don't know of any out of the box doubles that do that.

A relief in the saddle or that which you suggested. The past few years, the designs seem to favor a flatter, wider profile to accomodate the sit-bones. These designs also rely upon platform flexibility rather than only padding like years ago. Specialized is a sensible choice; they're highly rec. by many. Spec. makes good stuff...
