Sure, why not. Keep in mind its entry level. The
MEC brand is new so not many reviews on those bikes as of yet. Component wise, it definitely is entry level, but not a bad package price considering.

That's a good looking bike. Being a Canadian I'm a huge MEC fan and was excited to see they were doing bikes. It does seem very similiar to the
Kona Jake which I think is about the same price. The Kona is a well known brand so you can find reviews and the resale value would be higher. Of course it really depends on which bike fits you best. This MEC bike seems like good ...

So what did you end up getting? I got a set of fangos and have used them in one race. So far not real excited about how they worked, but I will give them some more time. Maybe some different tire pressures. I am interested in what others have experienced with the Fangos.

I've put 42's on one before, but I didn't measure them so no idea if they were really accurate with the sidewall. These barely fit.

You might want to swap the big
chain ring for a 46T or so. You'll probably be happier with something like a Tektro CR720 (or something better like the TRP EuroX) as the front brake. Eventually, I suspect, you'll want Tiagra or better shifters, which have a better release mechanism.
But really, you can race it like it is.

That's one of the reasons why I love them as well. It takes me back when a bike was a bike and could be ridden anywhere. Never cared for specialized (
adjective, not brand name) bikes that force me to stick to certain surfaces/conditions.
