Cops were already looking for him after having received calls about an erratic driver. Unfortunately, the guy hit the cyclist before the cops could stop him. As a side note, this took place on a very busy highway after dark. Speed limit 50mph. It's also a nice suburban area, not some inner city drug bazaar. While the cyclist did nothing wrong, wide shoulder, wearing a ...

If police currently aren't enforcing the existing laws as the apply to cyclists, guess what new law they'll be even less likely to want to enforce. Bike registration. With increased enforcement efforts, I wonder which law will get the most attention by police? "There are elements that refuse to follow the ...

The reality of today makes me almost laugh responding. I do consulting work and need to wear a suit most days to visit clients. I also have multiple client visits all over the place during the day. Last Thursday I left home at 5:30 to drive 100 miles one way and be back for another 3:00 appointment. This evening I got home and went for a bike ride in the dark. Despite a...

Yesterday I determined that road crews finishing a major arterial resurfacing project were in the process of striping it with narrow outside lanes instead of the wide outside lanes called for in the bicycle element of the city transportation plan. Got the city bike planner talking to the project engineer. They will now stripe the rest of the project with WOLs and are considering...

My route goes through the woods for several miles, and I've had sizeable sticks blown into my spokes while riding in strong crosswinds. One destroyed my fender, the other just snapped. Didn't bother the wheels that I built myself, but had it happened with the crap wheels the bike came with it almost certainly would have taken out a spoke or two....
