LIKE confeds other then UEFA cannot be in the same group... that's one of the ways, FIFA can fix things a bit... south africa, argentina, brasil can't get like federations... put afriac and asia in the same pot, and south africa gets a chance at an easier asian side

There's no way Tim Howard isn't our starting keeper in South Africa. We all know it. This should really be the least of our concerns. I believe Brad Friedel has played one game for the USMNT since the end of the 2002 WC. He's not even remotely involved with our program, and has had no interest. The guys that are bleeding and sweating their asses off for us deserve the opportunity.

From Jeff Carlisle: US Team Hopes For Favorable Draw Quote: Since rejoining the World Cup party back in 1990, the U.S. has never found itself in one of the easier groups. Even on those occasions when the U.S has progressed to the second round, it has done so as a heavy underdog, requiring an upset of the group favorite to progress. Now, it's almost expected that the Americans will face an uphill climb. and my favorite: Quote: Pot 1 will...

At first I pretty much scoffed at the idea of the US getting a seeding. But then I did a little research, and while I didn't crunch all the numbers (someone with more time and math skills can) it seems that we have a shot here.
Did you know that we were the 9th ranked team going into the 2006 World Cup?
Anyway, according to wikipedia, seeding is decided by rating in last two...

If it's not broken, why fix it? Dempsey in midfield is working. Why change?
Maybe it makes sense to move Dempsey to forward with Davies out, but making sense in theory doesn't always work out in practice. If you move Dempsey to forward, where he will be marked with more scrutiny, it might not solve the forward problem, and it may also create a secondary problem at right mid. Holden has been ok...

I'm guessing that 2018 is pretty much a mortal lock for England...which would eliminate all the other European nations from 2022.
With Mexico dropping their bid recently, not only does that leave the US as the only CONCACAF bid, it also leaves us as the only non-Asian bid, since the Aussies are now members of AFC.
Interesting, eh?

Guzan is a good keeper, but if he's not getting any games with Villa why should he be our #2?
It's nothing against Guzan, but I think goal keeping is all about practice and confidence. If he's not playing in meaningful games I think we should shelf him until the next cycle.

Your method, adjusting for limits to certain confederations doubling up in a group, would seem more "fair" in generating balanced groupings.
The seeding of a weak home team to avoid elite opponents is always the first factor wrecking a balanced set of groups.
In it's simplest form, there are typically about 16 of the top 20 teams at any World Cup. Those teams should be spread evenly...
