Question - Best Buy Forum
Published (2009-11-10 09:50:00)
It sounds like a software problem. To get an optical drive replaced on a notebook, you're looking at a hundred dollars or more. Sometimes less. It depends on the part used but the labor is going to be expensive, adding another 50-100 on to your bill.

Gift Card Scam - Best Buy Forum
Published (2009-11-11 14:23:00)
I don't really see where the scam is. You cannot expect to get something for free and then just take back the item for a refund and keep the free giftcard. It would just like buying a TV so you can get the free blu ray player and then returning the TV for a refund and keeping the blu ray player.

Yup, had that nasty surprise on my last stay in a Courtyard Marriott. Wireless was very weak (barely usable), the room had wired but I forgot my Cat5 cable! The biggest problem is that in many hotels, the wireless network is either weak or poorly managed. An example is the Days Inn in Lexington Park, MD where all the access points were on overlapping channels. Performance was universally poor and unreliable.

i would venture to say that your OS and graphics adapter are more than likely able to handle both screen formats. but, just to make sure, what is the latest service pack you have installed on your system?

Boot CD? - Best Buy Forum

Neither is responsible? I don't understand that.... When I bought it in BestBuy, It comes with it ! So that means the computer that I'm buying, the price include Windows Vista no? So if the computer is broken, isn't BestBuy responsible for the software? Because the price that I paid, software was included... How do you feel about that? or was I wrong?

Doesn't sound like you've got the "router to work" to me. A few quick questions... Can you connect to the internet with a wired connection? Is the wireless activated on your laptop(sometimes there's a button to activate wireless a connection)?

Welcome to the forum, smeeks. You gotta keep this simple. Most people over-analyze a computer purchase due to the complexity of such devices. First thing you need to establish is the size and weight. If you plan on being mobile with this unit, it's size and weight should be an overriding factor. If this is going to be more of a "house" computer, then you can be more feature oriented ...

You need to request restore CDs from Toshiba or find the ones that came with your notebook if there were any. Otherwise, you have to go and buy a copy of Windows 7 and install it.

These are all pretty much equal. If you want a long battery life, go with the Toshiba. If you want to be able to play Blu-ray Disks, go with the Sony. If none of that matters, go with the gateway. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+with+ Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B2+Duo+Processor+ -+NightSky+Black/9548661.p?id=1218122908891&skuId= 9548661 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+...

The best thing that you can do is call the store that is in New York. Stores have better access to the inventory system and 1-888-BESTBUY may also be able to pull that information as well. As product stock changes on a daily basis calling the day that you are there would be the best idea and they can actually hold the laptop for you for 24 hours. I hope that this information helps. To my knowledge Best Buy does not sell them for laptops. I know that we carry many flavors for desktop but I am pretty sure there are none for laptops. Does the black tie protection cover coffee spils or damage caused by the owner?
If i am not mistaken, Black tie protection and Accidental damage protection are two different things.

I dont know of any place that offers free WiFi in residential homes. Those that have wifi in their homes are either paying for the DSL/Cable Internet connection and using a wireless router to give them WiFi or they are mooching off a neighbors unsecured wireless signal. Wireless internet through a cell provider was not ment to be used for high bandwidth needs like movie streaming or very alrge ...

It depends on the hotel.
Some offer free WiFi, in which all you'll have to do is connect to it.
Others charge, usually outrageously.
Easiest way to know is to call the hotel and ask.

When purchasing this product, is a contract with AT&T required at all? I (if I purchase this product) will never take it out of a Wi-Fi zone, and don't need a data plan.
